Ok i just thougt that i would start a post to see some things that have happened to others on the site.
doesn't have to have been in the celi. basically what i am looking for are stories of where the car and driver shoulda been hurt a lot more than they really were but due to extreme luck very little to no damage at all was done. Ok heres mine. this was when i still had my 97 ST Limited. i was driving to my parents house for a sunday night dinner. i had just got on the freeway. i was going about 75 when all the sudden there was a tire tread in the middle of my lane. i didn't see it til i was about 20 yards away from it. i swerved to miss, over corrected then over corrected again, did a 360 on the freeway and landed on the side of the road. heres the lucky part. not a scratch on my car. it was in traffic too. where i slid off the freeway was level where most everywhere else drops 20 feet or so, there werent any signs or posts or anything. i must say that is the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. what inspired me to start this was i just read someones story about how the lost control of their car but the only damage was a screwed up rim. PLEASE POST GUYS! Interestered to hear your stories. Thanks -------------------- |

Was driving in the black hills here in south dakota to just relax and let off some steam..
Well two weeks earlier it had snowed, and from what i learned that day, is that even though the snow melts ice still hides behind the shadow's of mountains...so being a newb to ice/snow, i am doing 20 miles under the speed limit, and as i drive along the mountain roads i am thinking that I'am going a safe speed since the sun was out and other than what was hiding in the shadows there was no ice, snow or nuttin So i start going uphill on a mountain road, and decide to slow down since i see a curve coming, followed by a downhill slope, and a shadow of a huge boulder that was coming up on my right, well i start slowing down and slow down to 20 miles an hour, but................ that wasnt enough, and before i knew it, i had hit a patch of ice that covered the whole side on my lane, and alittle into the other, and started to tailspin off the side of this mountain (i was headed to a 50-80ft drop off ) but got saved when i bounced off the gaurdrail and skidded back into my lane.... needless to say i was scared silly, and my poor prelude only suffered some ugly body damage....but i know that if i was going the speed limit (60mi btw) i would've probably smashed through the gaurdrail , but anywho, thank god i didnt This post has been edited by 3WayStunna: Jun 3, 2007 - 4:24 AM -------------------- (\__/)

Never had real scary things with my cars. We dont have moutain roads or such since Holland is uhm..... FLAT
Back in the day when I had my Opel Kadett I did a 360 on the offramp of the free/highway. It really had a lousy suspension so the rear wanted to go first everytime you pulled the wheel to hard in the rain. But after the spin I faced the right direction again, only with a heart rate that was 60 beats higher -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

My wife and I were driving down to Camp Pendleton on I 5 south when this big piece of metal (about a foot around) flew up and sliced my passenger side mirror right off. My life said she could see it coming in slow motion but could not say anything. If it would have been a foot to the right (her left) I wouldn't have my wife anymore. Thats my story.

i have a million stories...i prolly should even be here right now....where do i start..lol..ok ill go in order
i had a 86 honda accord hatch 5 speed....girl really pissed me off one night so i was drivin home thinkin about all the bullS#I^ and it had just rained so the ground was wet...i was close to my house but i was on like this 2 lane winding road...for some reason i was like fcuk this siht and pulled the e-brake doin like 55 around a turn...got it sideways...oversteered so it swung really far back the other way so i was almost verticle...went through a red light/intersection sideways and i was facin people at the bus stop as im sliddin through the intersection, then i cut the wheel real hard again and finally i straighted it out but i almost missed the curb...i couldnt believe it caus it happened so fast ok im on the turnpike and im on my way to my dads house...im in my 87 camaro v8...im rollin at like 75-80mph and im commin up on this u-haul van thats goin way to slow..so i give it a litte bit of gas and start to go around him...car just completely shuts off...now im doin like 85 mph..have no power steering caus the cars off and the brakes are gettin harder because of the vacume...so i had to cut the u-haul van off and i cut the steering wheel as hard as i can so i can get over into the shoulder...im standin on the brake peddal to try and get this big hunk of crap to slow down a little and as im on the shoulder theres an over pass commin commin up and it cuts the shoulder off again..im like fuuuuucckkkk this..cut the u-haul van back out so i can get a little back into the lane so i dont hit the side of the overpass an then i get back onto the shoulder...luckily there was a rest stop commin up n there was no one in there so i pulled the hand brake...stood on the brake and finally got her to stop...that time wasnt too much fun considering the whole time i thgouht i blew my engine caus my oil press. dropped and i was thinkin about what im gonna do about another engine and how to stop the car at the same time Last im in the celica commin home from my dads..it was like a cold winter day..no snow or anything just a little cold out..drivin on this other major road called 222...2 lane highway...messin around with my head unit and a not lookin where i was goin...i driffted onto the shoulder which is like gravel and a little bit of ice on the side of the raod and theres no warning grooves to let you know..i look up and im like shhhhhhiitt, cut the steering wheel like your not supposed to and the whole as$ end kicks out..now im like facin the gard rail on the other side with a semi commin up on my...rip the steering wheel back the other way and luckily the back tires grabbed and through back the right way so i could straighten it out...that one was quite scary too but those are just a couple of the storys i've had....not fun encounters -------------------- I"M NOT A TOYOTA FAN, IM A FANATIC 1984 accord hatch 5 speed (T-Belt)-Junkyard 1991 VDUB jetta wolfsburg Ed. 5 speed (clutch)-junkyard 1988 Dodge Aries K (sold) 1969 Chevy El camino - Traded for celica 1991 Dodge Daytona-Traded for Celica 1988 Chevy Camaro-Work in Progress 1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 - For Sale 1995 Toyota Celica-Work in Progress |

was having fun on local windy road w/ the celi
know the road and what speeds i can push the car. . . well, right at the bend there was salt from the trucks the night before THINKING it was going to snow, but it didn't... hit that and pulled a 180, somehow staying on the road, because the salt was at the apex, and i spun going in the direction OFF the road. . . i was scared to push the car to that speed again on that road, and always stayed 10under it. . . -------------------- |

Havent had a total scary experience but this is what I got... lol
It was right after sunset, and just starting to get dark. I was on a windy country road, maybe I was going like 10 over the speed limit, and as I was coming around this corner, all of a sudden there's this big deer standing right in my lane. I swerved sharply into the other lane just missing it by only a couple feet. Luckily for me there was no oncoming traffic that happened to be super close when I swerved in, but if there was I would have either wound up hitting the deer, or going off the road taking my car into a marshy swamp. -------------------- 2003 Nissan Murano SE |

One time, at band camp...
Nah, just kidding lol. In the summer of '05, some friends and I organized a track day. Problem was that the only affordable one was about 5 hours away. Anywhoo, I get into my little '04 Mitsu Lancer ES with one of my friends girlfriend. Seatbelts and helmets on, and then we take off. We were just about to come back into pit when I looked at her and said : "One more lap?" "Sure!" A few turns later, I end up exiting a turn telling myself that that was really quick, probably the fastest all day for that turn. Just before the next turn was a dip before a rising sweeping turn. I ended up oversteering badly, going litterally sideways on the track, facing the cement walls, behind which was a small stream. I tried to regain control of the car (which I would've had the track been wider) and did to a certain degree, I was now at a 45 degree angle with the wall. I hit it at about 50-60 kph (I really have no idea but that's what it felt like) and the small cement wall (more like a highway divider when there's construction) leaned over and acted as a ramp. Ended up doing an aerial McTwist and landing on the dividers on the roof. The girl and I were ok, the impact was surprisingly smooth, but it was still a close one. Had the car landed maybe a foot forward, I probably would've had a neck injury. The car was totaled, the radiator support on the passenger side came back a foot and probably rose just as much. Surprinsingly, only the rear window and the driver side rear window busted. That accident changed the way I look at suspension setups completely. -------------------- One o'dem crazy Canadian freaks, eh?

Too many to name. Most memorable was driving with Coomer and telling some guys they were perverts for whistling at some 14 year old girls. Long story short - They spit on his car. He told me to spit back so i spit my gum at them then they threw an iced coffee in his car and then we followed them and they wanted to beat me up. TWO GUYS WANTED TO BEAT ME UP! it was pretty scary. I still say sorry to coomer for all that and its been 3 years now.

A few years ago, I was out driving up in the countryside of Northumberland (North East England). It was a nice sunny summer's afternoon and I had my mother in the car with me. I was driving down a long tree-lined country road where the speed limit was 60mph. I wasn't that farmiliar with the road and maybe should have slowed down a little, but there were no other cars around and the driving conditions were perfect so I thought, what the hell..
Anyway, as I got further down the road, the trees to either side gave way to open fields and hedgerows The road ahead curved to the right and began to go up a gradient although the fields were flat. I continued at the same speed but realised as I got to the top of the gradient that it was infact a hump-back bridge with a sharp and sudden drop on the other side! The car took-off as I went across the crest of the bridge, gaining quite a lot of air and narrowly missing a car that was approaching from the other direction. There was an almighty bang as my car landed and I was convinced I'd caused some serious damage but to my amazement, everything was OK. I got out and looked around the car and at the road for debris/oil etc but nothing. There were scrapes in the tarmac from where other cars had evidently done the same thing but they were way back from where my car had landed which resulted in a new set of scrapes quite a few yards further down the road! I've been down that road since and there's no sign post warning drivers of the bridge, no wonder I didn't see it coming! To this day, I still don't know how I got away with it. about 3 years in Vegas i was with a friend and his brand new evo 8. So we were crusing the strip and then we were getting on the freeway, way to fast mind you. He lost it, we spun out and went across 4 lanes of freeway traffic and got hit by 3 other cars going about 70 mph, first a sedan hit us in the back, then a suv hit my (passenger) side and a little honda hit the driver side. then we slammed into the center divider. the car didnt even look like a car afterwards. We both walked away with out a single bump, bruise, or scratch. To this day my plams still get sweaty merging on freeways when some1 else is driving. I think there was some devine intervention, we both should have died in that crash. My girlfriend at the time got there and saw the car and thought we had both been killed and was hysterical. I remember getting out and looking at the car and laughing bcuz we made it. By far the best and worst experience of my life.

Yea, that was me that hit the divider and only damaged the rim, my girlfriend said i was about a foot and a half from the front of the tractor trailer at one point, if we hadn't picked up speed while spinning it would've caught right on the passenger side door so all in all i was pretty damn lucky...
this isn't my first incident with a car and won't be my last most likely but there are way too many to list haha |

riding shotgun drifting at Shannonville Motorsports park, SC400, 240 infront of us that had his diff blow up, big oil spill, SC going about 70km/h mid drift, hit the oil patch, start spinning, my buddy Arty tried counter steering, and then we hit the ditch. The track is about 5 or 6 feet above the bottom of the ditches. Landed in the ditch sideways, rolled over onto the roof. The rear 1/4 got crushed in, roof and rear left C pillar completely crushed, the roof above me crushed in, not completely, roof line came about half an inch from my head, and the helmet i was wearing wasnt FIA or DOT approved. Found out the helmet wasnt safe after i got out of the car and had the safety guys check us out. Thank god for Sabelt 4 points..lol

ah, well coming home from work it had just rained and was about 28* outside.
ont a highway i was going about 45 (speedlimit 70) hit this huge slab of ice, did 3 1/2 spins, i had my clutch in so it didn't die, it caught traction going backwards! my speedo read 40 still, and i tried braking but didn't work(texas = summer tires all year) and i decided to pull my ebrake and jerk the wheel. i ended up doing 1 1/2 spins and going 30 like nothing happened. there was quite a bit of traffic too... i think i crossed only one lane. scary... its the first frost i've seen in my life. i had no idea ice traction sucked soo badly. -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. People never check their mirros here in Delaware it seems, I can think of two really close instances in the past few months.
One was when i driving the camry and was heading up I95 from school to home, about 20 miles. They were doing road construction and had it down to two lanes, then when it opened back up to 4 lanes I got all the way over to the left (I always use my turn signal!) and decided that the winnebago going 55 in the PASSING lane was not up to my speed, so I put on my right turn signal and am 3/4 of the way into the lane when the car in the Middle-right lane decides who needs a turn signal and attempts to merge into me. So I had to whip the wheel to avoid a collision did a 180* and then another 180* in the other direction and back and forth a few more times. I managed to get over to the shoulder and stopped to catch my breath and stepped out and let loose with tirade of expletives that only a mother could love . Another incident happened when I was on the on ramp of I95 and being in the celica that handles so well I was probably going a little faster than I should have been, and the path I had chosen had 2 broken beer bottles on the left side (I like the hang high coming into a corner and then cut it back towards the inside line producing a more spirited ride) so I had to cut right a lot sooner than normally, and went about 180* before I corrected and continued about my way. None the less, a lesson learned (I have probably driven on that onramp over 200 times before, so I was very familiar with the layout of the road, just a lesson that the same road you travel on every day does NOT always have the same conditions) This post has been edited by laff09: Jun 8, 2007 - 3:10 PM |

Oh, once while driving my oh-so-reliable 91 Eclipse, lol, my alternator started to die. It was about 1100PM in the middle of a blizzard and I was coming home from work. I had to turn off my radio, heat and had to keep turning my headlights off so it wouldnt die. About halfway home, I flipped on my lights for a second to see the road ahead of me when I spotted a downed tree about 20 feet in front of me! Luckily i managed to avoid it and make it home in one piece, but it definitely scared the beejeesus out of me
