leave the blue connectors plugged in, they are what links the speakers to the amp.

IPB Image

you'll also need the 8 speaker stereo harness that goes from the amp to your new stereo.
Part Number: 86203-20200 $24

If i'm not wrong, u should be able to use that stereo w/an st. The back of the unit has a slot for both the st and gt.

PS how did u get all that sh*t out?! it is so cramped for space in there

i see, so you have the standard toyota setup (4 speaker setup) that requires those two blue connectors to hook up to most standard toyota stereos (like this for example). although, the toyota stereo that you have requires the 6 or 8 speaker harness plus the amp.

the best thing to do is find a different compatible stereo and sell the one you have.

probably not. you see, the stereo you have now doesn't have a built-in amplifier like most toyota stereos. it requires a factory toyota amplifier to hook up to it and then wired to your speakers.
if you really want to use that stereo, then you'll need the 6 or 8 speaker harness and amplifier.

I don't think that's the stock head unit. at least, it doesn't look like the one I had.

mine looks like this:
IPB Image
it's in two pieces, one for CD, and one for cassette/radio. one black wire in the back connects the two. it might be different for a convertible, but this came stock on my GT hatch w/ 6 speaker set-up. here's some pics I took of the stickers on them so you could see the part numbers:

there are different stereos for the celica. mine looks like this. but the model of the stereo doesn't really matter, just that for the celica it's either the non-amplified stereo (6 or 8 speaker setup) or amplified stereo (4 speaker setup).
and if it really did come off a celica convertible, then it's probably one from either the 98 or 99 ones.
