For all you WA people, do any of you know if it is illegal to take off your front liscence plate? I know iv'e seen a lot of other cars and some other 6th gen owners who drive w/out on the front. So i'm not sure if it could get me a ticket or if it would just be ok to have the liscence plate in the car with me just in case..?

IIRC, it is illegal in most states (MT being one exception I am aware of) and many states police (notably VT and CA) are strictly enforcing the requirement to display two number plates. In the UK the law states that a license plate must be mounted on the front of the vehicle and on the back of the vehicle and there is some very technical wording for the distances and angles that the plates must be viewable from. In particular, the plate must be mounted as close to vertical as possible. I believe it is the latter that allows police to prosecute people with small plates attached to the bonnet or plates on the dashboard. AFAIK it isn't actually illegal in the UK to mount your plate in the windscreen as long as it meets the vertical, distance and angle tests as well as the wndscreen tests for nothing obstructing the view out of the windscreen. -------------------- Davey

well my thought on it is that i shouldn't because i never got in ay trouble before when i didn't have it on my Olds, and i know some people, like Coomer, drive around without one (at least i didn't see it..lol). and iv'e looked on google, still can't find anything helpful, surprising, i know..lol..so that why i was wondering if any WA residents have any trouble with not having a liscence plate on the front and if it is ok or not.

It varys from state to state, and yes for you it looks like it is illegal (link)
i have gotten pulled over for not having it myself in annapolis, they just gave me a warning, but the standard ticket is like 60 bucks. if you decide not to put it on, i would keep it in the car like i did, and when you do get pulled over, whip it out and say you lost the screw or something (thats what saved me from a ticket ![]() |

It all depends on where you are. In Maryland, I've gotten verbal warnings, written warnings, work orders, and a ticket to get my plate back on. Eventually I just put it back on, the ticket wound up being $40 but the cop was an a-hole. He was the one that gave me a ticket for going 8 miles over the speed limit. Jerk.

Yes, it's illegal in WA. I've been pulled over for it many times. If you look at your registration, it says "display tabs on back plate only. Front plate still required." or something like that (cops have kindly circled that a couple times for me after pulling me over and giving me warnings for no front plate).

dang, so even if you still have it in yourcar with you, you can get a ticket? that's kind of stupid since you still have it with you and the back one is on. i'm thinkin' i might do like what 6gcSTVT did and relocate since i don't really like the stock location..lol

I'm in Cali. i used to put my LP on the dash as well, but then they said that it still doesn't work for the vehicle requirements. But yes, the only thing u will get is a fix-it ticket.

im glad we got rid of that law in AZ many years ago. 1 LP on the back will do nicely. strangely enough im seeing more and more cars(and trucks for that matter) placing there plate on the inside of their tinted rear window. ive known a few guys that do that and dont get any trouble for it.

Here in ontario we r suppost to have front plates too, but alot of the cops are pretty relaxed about where you put em...like ive seen maybe 5 or 6 guys in the last few weeks who have eithe european or japaneese plates in the front where the normal plate should go, and then they zipp tied their real plate to their passanger side sunvisor.
