I took some pictures of my Ebay'ed CAI. I havent installed it yet and I probably won't until I buy a bypass valve. I believe I recieved a 3 inch pipe.
In the following picture, it looks maybe 2.75 but that is only on that side. When you turn the pipe, it is 3 inches.

This is a picture of the start of pipe that the filter connects to. Not the end for the filter, the other end. For some reason, I got a 3 Inch Pipe.
I think that's what it is. Is this going to mess up my intake?

This is a picture of the two pipes and filter I recieved. The red circled parts are the two pipes I talk about in my previous post.
As you can also see on the pipe without the two small things, there are two dents, probably not much of a concern.

This is the 3 inch filter I recieved. It is big.

6 Inches long.


From this information, what can you tell me? Is it too big? I fear I spent 30 bucks on something that wont work for me.

I found a bypass valve for 44.95 near where I live. I need the 3 inch one right?

this has already been covered in the other CAI thread.

basically you don't need either of the two breather tubes for the GT. however, you'll need to drill a hole to plug in the air temp sensor that's on the stock air box. be sure to keep the rubber grommet from the old box so that you can easily plug the air temp sensor without problems.

what i did was i sealed off the small breather pipe. then i grinded off the larger one and drilled a larger hole for the air temp sensor.

now for fitting it in, you'll need to enlarge the hole where the stock air duct goes through. for this you can use a dremel, grinder or whatever that works.

when you're done, be sure to reset your ECU. there's a how-to at the main 6G Celicas page that will help you do that.

So on yours is the sensor closer to the fuse box or the throttle body?

Also, what hole do I need to enlarge? You say the stock air duct. Are you talking about the hole under the fuse box or what. Thanks for your help!!!

i kinda forgot which side it was but i'm guessing the air temp sensor is now closer to the throttle.

i was referring to the hole next to the battery on the bottom behind the low beam headlight. there are actually two holes for the stock air ducts... one is below the fusebox which leads to an open end duct (where air enters the piping) and the other hole is on the bottom side (right in front of the driver side wheel arch in the engine bay) where it leads to a sealed box inside the fender.

About the sensor, I just figured it wouldnt reach but I honestly havent looked that close at it.

As for the holes, will grinding them open mess with anything?

were you talking about the ones you said here:

basically there are two holes, one is vertical and is mounted right beneath the fusebox that leads to the side fender. the other hole is horizontal (flat) that's located in front of the wheel well right behind the low beam. it's kinda hidden, but trust me, once you get started on the install, you'll know what i mean....

My hope is to get this done in one day after I get my bypass valve. This is my only car so if I screw something up the first time, I have to walk/ride a bike. frown.gif no fun. These holes are the ones you say should not be left open right?

oh i see, don't be mistaken between the two holes on the intake pipe and the two holes for where the air ducts go... sorry, if i screwed up somewhere..
anyway, the two intake breather holes are not needed, but you'll need to put the air temp somewhere so there'll be atleast one hole on the intake.
the two holes on the body are the air duct vents for the stock air cleaner system. one of these holes leads to the atmosphere (you know, where air enters.. the other hole leads to another air box resonator of some sort.
but like i mentioned you'll know what i mean once you start on the installation.

How do I clean the inside of the pipes? My dad suggested one of those shower scrubber things. How would yall do this?

Oh and I am going to seal those two pipes with some epoxy stuff.

use throttle body cleaner and a rag. When you say shower scrubber thing you mean like the shower cleaner stuff? or like a scrubbing pad u use in the shower on your self? or like a scrubber u use to clean the walls.

As for using the epoxy, i would get some vacuum caps first, then epoxy the caps onto the pipe, it will probably seal better.

Epoxy is solid when it dries too.

vacuum caps are like $.20 each, check napa or pep boys or a place like that and bring in the piping to match it up. I know expoy dries solid, but you can still have small tunnels where the air can pass through

you can, but whys it gonna take so long for the bypass valve? they r $40 and tools needed is just a hand saw, drill and a couple of sockets. you can, just add on the rest of the piping when you get what you need.

Well, interestingly enough, the CAI didn't fit. 3 inches was way too large. Right now I don't know what to do.
