unless i shift really slow from 4th gear to 5th gear, it somewhat grinds. it doesnt do this on any other gears, in fact other than this, my car shifts great. anyone know what the problem could be?

Did it just start doing this after you installed your 7th gen short shifter? The shifter makes everything alot more mechanical feeling and waaaaay easier to grind if you're not careful. If I try to go through gears to fast I almost always grind into second.

or worse....could b the synchronizers....if its them itll get worse w/ time and eventually wont stay in gear at all.

i drive auto but i know that you have to change the maunal tranny fluid regularly and one of the symptoms of not changin it is grinding , try changing it and see what happens , there is a how-to

Synchronizers are what slow down or speed up the gears to match the engine RPM when you are shifting gears. No way to just check them without tearing the trans down. If it shifts fine when the engine is off and you are sitting still then it could be that. It could also be a shift fork that is bent.
