As some of you might remember, one of my good friends runs an importing company with his brothers. They import cars from japan of every make and model thats 15 years old or older. Any ways, today i went back to my old work where i used to do tires. I needed to get some new rubbers, so i was talking with the owner, really nice guy. Any ways, some how we got onto the topic of cars from japan and importing them. I told him my friend imported cars from japan that are both right and left hand drive *depending on car's manufactutere*. So we started talking and he says to me, "you know, ive been working a hell of alot lately and ive been thinkin of startin to take some time off and buyin my self a nice little car to run around in. Somethin thats nice and quick and reliable, and probably a drop top. Do you think your friend could import me a 500SL??" So i wrote down the specs he wanted, every thing regarding the car and then asked him "well...how much do you wanna spend on one??" so he kinda looks at me for a second and goes "well...i wanna spend about as much as i can for one that i could buy in florida, or a bit less...so im gonna sayy...maybe between...i dunno...$11-18K??"...so i was kinda taken back and said, ok..well ill let my friend know. Sure enough, i call him about 10 min later and he tells me he can import one for around $7.5-9K his cost, but he said if i wanna sell it as my car, i could get a bit more out of it. So Mikey *friend who imports* said, so if i get this car landed, i get my cut, and my money back for the car, you could make about 3-6K on this car. AKA i buy the car from mikey for his cost + about $600, then sell it for another $3-6K ontop. Essentialy take a car that is bought for less than 7K and turn it into a car thats sold for $13K. So in september, im gettin the deposit for the car, bringing one over and by Feb, i should have a quick $3-6K in my pocket. Not bad for just needing to get tires eh?? I seriously wish i could run into more deals like this.

I just needed to tell some one..im kinda excited..lol

That's cool! That's a good friend to let you in on the deal as well, instead of just selling it himself. Does he know how to make the cars so they are legal there?

The RC.

It's already been done.

There are at least 2 in the states [actual RCs] and maybe 3 or so in Canada.

2 More years and you can bring over a WRC 205. smile.gif

Theres alot more than 3 in canada, i know of at least 12 in BC and 5 in Ontario.

As for making them legal, all the cars need are daytime running lights, english labels for things like airbag warnings, the documentation converted to english, child safety seat harness, and make sure that if they are equiped with them their airbags work.

Maybe it is just my mood today but it seems shady as hell that you are screwing over this "really nice guy" to make yourself a quick buck. Karma means once you get the car he doesn't want it and you get screwed.

you just said what car sellers do...buy for cheap and sell for more, lol!

You can get jdm MR2's for under 10 000$ from importers. and if you check on autotrader.ca they are all 12 000$+ from dealers. Its fierce competition and a very small market.

exactly. Im essentialy gettin my cut for setting the deal up. Its what any and every car dealership does. If you walk in with a 1999 Chev Cavalier, they will probably give u $2500 for it, then you will drive by a week later seeing your old car up for sale for $6K...its like stocks, buy low, sell high. Skylines are the biggest rip offs in the used car market right now for importing. Most of the guys who are sellin em are sellin em for at least $13K for a GTR, but probably bought the car for $7 if that. Im just being the middle man and taking my cut off it. Im not screwing him over, im not being shady, im just doing what any car sales men would do.

So if I or someone else on this site wanted your help to import a car you would make a few grand off of us?

I make my extra cash to pay for my toys by buying cars are broke and the owner does not want to fix them. I do probably one a month. Ill buy a civic that needs a timing belt for 500 bucks. Fix it and clean it up and sell it for 1000-1500 depending on the condition. Working at a mechanic shop helps alot. People come in and realize how much its going to cost to fix their car and then I buy it off them when they dont want it anymore.

The thing is, i dunnno how much im gonna b pocketing off this deal. It could be $1000, it could be $1, i was just saying there is a potential of how much $ i could make. And also what me and him have discussed is that b4 he buys the car in full, we are gonna bring it over, land it and let him see it to get him to give us an offer. So if he wants to buy the car for $15 because thats what he feels is a good price for it, he will give us $15...and if my friend only bought it for $8 with his cut, then i get the rest of the $ on the deal.

Essentialy, yea i would make a few $ off selling a car to any one. It doesnt matter if its for my friends, or if its for my family, the way my friend and i worked it out is i get a small % off every sale, somethin in the range of 4-10% based on the price of the car, thats my normal cut, but when it comes to a situation like this where the guy has pretty much come out and said, id be willing to give u $18K for a car if its in good condition and i like it, im not gonna pass up the chance to make a few hundered.

Also Zach what your doing with fixing up cars is a good idea. My friend does that but he buys cars for $200 up to maybe $2500 at auctions, brings em back to his shop, swaps motors into them *if they are hondas*, and sells them for at least $5K. He does about 2 cars every 3 weeks or so.
