How mad is the idea to move side light indicator on the mirrors (after find the right ones, adapting someones or using covers or maybe led's ones) and then close the fenders holes with some caps or symbol like Nissan 350Z (for example using trd symbol or TS 7th gen symbol????)

QUOTE(max-elle @ Jul 28, 2007 - 9:31 AM) How mad is the idea to move side light indicator on the mirrors (after find the right ones, adapting someones or using covers or maybe led's ones) and then close the fenders holes with some caps or symbol like Nissan 350Z (for example using trd symbol or TS 7th gen symbol????) I'm thinking of doing similar. As mine is a UK car, the side marker is towards the top and back of the fender, near the door. I was thinking of enlarging the hole and putting a vent like the Aston Martin or Merc SLK where the old indicator is, plus an air duct into the engine bay. Problem is, I can't find a fender insert for either car on ebay and the aftermarket side vent accessories look crap. I also looked for aftermarket fenders with vents for our car, but they look rubbish, too. -------------------- Davey

for BloodyStupidDavey
This is the only simple vent I found on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Air-Vent-Fo...sspagenameZWDVW it could be interesting to see it painted in the same tint of the car, or in black for white and silver metallic celicas, or in a sorta of anodized o brushed metal paint |

QUOTE(max-elle @ Aug 26, 2007 - 9:43 AM) Some news? Did you tried something? No. it is a very long-term plan. I currently have the front bumper off my car, so I might have a go at taking the fender off and taking some pictures to work with. I have run extra wires from the kick panels through the door panels and to the mirrors in preperation. I was also planning to make a note of the part numbers for the mirror covers and seeing if they are the same as for any other Toyota/Lexus. I don't understand why car companies don't reuse their parts more. Our mirror covers look almost identical to so many other Toyota and Lexus models. Almost, but not quite. The vent is more difficult. I'll probably end up fashioning something out of fiberglass to get exactly the look I want, then going to a machine shop to get some custom strakes made. -------------------- Davey

QUOTE(BloodyStupidDavey @ Aug 26, 2007 - 10:39 AM) so I might have a go at taking the fender off and taking some pictures to work with. The above picture shows the rainwater gully on the right-hand fender. The gulley runs the entire length of the windscreen, the plastic grille at the bottom of the windscreen sits over this gulley. This rather weird pair of images are a close-up of the gulley. The left-hand image is the original photo. The false-colour image on the right-hand side highlights some things of interest: The green area is the large hole that leads into the main gulley that runs under the windscreen. The white 'u' shaped structure right at the bottom of the photo is the actual channel that directs the water. You can see this channel more clearly in the very first photo in this post. The hole I've highlighted in purple is a rectangular mounting hole for a plastic wiring loom retainer clip. The other side of that hole is the wheel well. Although not obvious from the angle of this photo, the clip would be inserted into this hole from the other side, to keep the fender wiring loom secure as it snakes round the wheel well (between the plastic wheel well liner and the bodywork). On my model, this particular hole isn't use although many similar holes are. The hole I've highlighted in orange/brown is a rectangular mounting hole for a plastic wiring loom retainer clip or a locating lug. Although not obvious from the angle of this photo, the other side of that hole is the engine bay between the strut tower and windscreen. The hole is just below a reinforcing bracket. The area I've highlighted in blue is an area of single-skin body panel between some spot welds (you may be able to just make them out to the right of the highlighted area) and the corner of the engine bay. The bottom of the highlighted area is just above the reinforcing bar and the top of the highlighted area is the top of the rainwater gully. I'm thinking of removing the area of metal highlighted in blue. When the car is moving at speed, the effect of wind flowing over the bonnet, across the vents at the bottom of the windscreen, then across the windscreen should cause a suction effect drawing cold air from the wheel well (as currently happens) and hot air from the engine bay. Because the cut-out area is significantly above the gully floor, water from the gulley won't be able to find its way into the engine bay. I'm further thinking of fitting an air duct between the fender and the top of the gulley, keeping well clear of channel (the bit highlighted in white that directs the water). Here is a crude template that shows the location of the gulley (purple) and channel (thick black line) with respect to the European sidemarker light (dotted black line), edge of the fender where it meets the door (cyan) and the structural top edge of the engine bay (orange/brown): Here is a cutaway image showing the same thing: This post has been edited by BloodyStupidDavey: Aug 26, 2007 - 4:45 PM -------------------- Davey
