Alright I've done the automatic 3SGTE and it was great while it lasted... Second gear just disappeared one day so I think I'm just going to go ahead with the manual swap instead of trying to install a built A540E to replace the stock A140E.
When I bought my celica a few years ago it came with what I was told was everything I needed to do the auto to manual swap but the seller ended up being less than trustworthy so I was hoping you all would be able to confirm that these are the parts I need. The clutch pedal doesn't spring back on it's own when it's in the depressed position. Is that normal? I assume so since the hydraulics are dry and the pressure plate isn't offering any resistance. Also, Can anyone tell me what in the hell this transmission came out of? I know it's not an S54 and it's not from a Camry or a 4th gen Celica but maybe it's from a 5th gen. I need to find out which car it came from so I can get the electric speedometer sensor to replace the cable driven one. I'm not sure about the drivers side transmission mount either. Does this one look like what I need or do I need to find one from the S54 out of a 6th gen. Lastly, do these cables look like 6th gen GT shift cables? Thanks in advance. The flywheel and clutch are MIA but I'll be getting a spec clutch and hopefully a lightweight flywheel. -------------------- Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

Stock = stock clutch
>250 and <325whp = Clutchmasters Stage III >325 and <400whp = Clutchmasters Stage IV Spec has had very sporatic results. I can't help with your questions. That shifter does not look like the 6th gen shifter but its been awhile since I changed mine. You might want to look at the TRD how to and compare the pictures. Here is a thread on the parts needed for a auto to manual swap: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=30415 (My hyperlink button is not working) -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

I'm pretty sure the shifter is the right one after looking at this thread:
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=22975 As for the thread you linked to I have all but the flywheel, clutch kit, and pressure plate bolts. I'm still not sure if the driver's side mount that I have will work or not though. I'll have to look into clutchmasters and see if they can do the same thing spec does with the 3S clutch disc with 5S splines. -------------------- Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

looks like an s53 from a 5th gen, because of the cable driven speedo sensor.
QUOTE The clutch pedal doesn't spring back on it's own when it's in the depressed position. Is that normal? yeah its normal. you need to have the system filled with fluid and bled, for it to spring back. Thanks guys. Sorry about the pics. I only had my phone with me.
I'm pretty sure everything is right except the drivers side trans mount. Do I just need the bracket that bolts to the trans? Does the rubber grommet on the shifter cables look like it's from a 6th gen? -------------------- Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

I guess it all depends if the mount your getting is from a 6th gen. the top half that bolts to that bracket is welded to the mount itself, its all one piece -------------------- |

Huh? You lost me.
I have the top half of the mount from the automatic. It's supposed to work with the bracket that bolts to the manual transmission if I'm not mistaken. Will the automatic transmission bracket work on the manual? This post has been edited by WannabeGT4: Aug 2, 2007 - 8:07 PM -------------------- Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

you need the M/T mount and bracket. You will not be able to use your A/T mounts/brackets for the driver's side.

OK thanks. I was a little confused since in this thread she said that the difference was in the bracket but I guess that's just in the ST. The GT will need both the bracket and the insulator.

sorry. what I meant was the part thats different between the auto and manual is the bottom part of the mount that connects to the bracket on the trans. so an auto mount will not fit on a manual trans
