Personally I'd go with the new civic coupe. I like the tc and all, but some options will push its price straight through the ceiling and I despise that pure pricing policy. Neither car is not that much fun to drive for me, as the tc feels like driving a camry with slightly heavier steering modulation and the civic feels like every civic I've driven before. Both cars are slower than death with automatic trannys, but with a manual the civic feels peppier because you can always feel how much heavier the tc is in its driving dynamics. The civic has a classier interior that looks and feels better to the touch, the tc has a nice center console, but everything else is made from hard rough cheap feeling plastic and that paper thin headliner and flimsy shade covers should not even be in 16k car. The tc has more interior space, but the civic has a larger/more usable trunk. Aftermarket for both should be pretty good, but to me the new civic looks better and seems to be better bang for the buck than the tc.

I would go with a tC over the new civics. I would take the 03 Si hatchback over the tC though.

Either would be brand-new...
My inital reactions with these cars is this: The TC feels like a bigger car, has more usable power for every day driving, feels roomier in back, has a more appealing image to me, and the panorama roof... However, the Civic gets 38 mpg on the highway, has a much better sound system, and for me, was much more fun to drive... Cost wise, they don't get farther than $500 away from one another retail they way i'd want one... the tc. they have a pretty big aftermarket, and if you ever decided to turbo it, there are a lot of fairly reliable options.

i think they're both good cars, so it's kind of a win either way for you.
however, i disagree that there would be a better aftermarket for the tC, i think they're both pretty well supported. i don't get the impression that you're upgrading in a never-ending quest for power, so the availability of the trd sc for the tC is sort of a moot point, were anyone considering mentioning it. besides, the hp/$ for that isn't exactly the best. i don't find either to be more exciting in terms of looks, honestly. the civic has a better motor. the reason people think the tC feels like a camry is that the engine IS in fact, from a camry. for the displacement advantage it have on the civic, it should be ALOT more powerful and it's not - but it doesn't get as good of fuel economy either. it would be a better candidate for turbo, but that's about it. i like the feel of the shifter in the civic much better, but the instrument layout is, well, unpleasant. i'm not sure i could ever get used to the goofy gauges. it's not a spaceship, honda...it's a friggin' civic. sorry, /rant. the scion is a hatchback, where the honda has a trunk (all else aside, the tC is my choice on that) - that's entirely your preference, but i like i said, i prefer the hatch if it's any importance. personally i would get a scion. keep in mind that i do not necessarily think it's a better car, it just fits my style better. -------------------- do you know who i am, mr. worley? |
