I am a owner of a Celica GT hatchback. And from what they have told me some mechanics here in Greece if i pull the handbrake while i drive me car something is going to break! I believe this is true but is there any mod that can be done to make the handbrake usefull not only for parking but also for energetic safety??? Sorry, i am asking all these but i believe that the use of the handbrake some times is something more than important! Thanks Anyway!

I think if you continue to drive while the ebrake is on, you will grind your brakes to nothing, eventually ruin your rotors, ruin the brake shoes, and your tire could catch on fire. Of course, this is if you keep driving with the ebrake on.

if u pull the handbrake while driving, nothing breaks, u just come to a sudden stop and slide occasionally. I have done it many times just messing with passengers, and the celi is still running fine. Just dont drive with it continually on. that's bad.

What they said, nothing will break unless you hit something while doing it.
Just causes loss of traction of rear tires. -------------------- |

you can break records doing sweet drifts!
not really... FWD lol. the only thing that will BRAKE will be your car, hah. just like everyone else said, in case of an emergency yank the sucker, but don't drive with it on -------------------- **If you play My Brute, joing the 6gc.net clan!**

Ofcousre i didn't ment to drive with the e-brake on but to pull it only when is needed or just to drift my car. I am not sure if it is possible because when onces i tried to pull the e-brake while my car was running in a very low speed i heard a very bad noise like something had broke and i never tried again. Maybe here in Greece the celicas have different type of e-brake! I don't know maybe i 'm wrong. But thanks for your replies!

Ive done it but don't reccomend it. changing the ebrake pads is a pain and ordering them is even more of a hassle. not worth it imho

Might have bounced a little from your tires, depends on your sidewall size. The emergency brake is exactly as the name says it is, it's for emergencies and parking. If you lose the regular brakes it is a way to stop your car. Also as said by others the park brake shoes are a pain to change and they aren't made from very tough pads because they aren't supposed to be used for regular braking. |

i pulled mine once to take this turn at like 90 while i was running from the cops, and when i got my car back the ass of the car was vibrating wicked bad, i got out and looked around and i noticed i had destroyed about 4" of tread on the rear tires right down to the belt, it was making the car vibrate like heck and sounded awfull
so IMO pull the e-brake only in snow or ice (to drift) or on terrible tires There is also a chance of the ebrake getting stuck in the on position if you yank it hard enough, its happened to me alot in other cars, never in my celi tho, idk if its possible to get it seized in a celi This post has been edited by Redline08: Aug 21, 2007 - 4:08 PM |

YES what will happen when you do? skidding/loss of control/wrecking/wreckless driving/stopping not really... in canada its called an e-brake or emergency break. All driving schools here teach you how to use it properly. Its pretty much there for you to safely stop the car if your brakes give out for what ever reason..your pads are shot, bad brake lines, etc. Its also there for if you do park your car it wont roll away. But if you know how to do it, you can use it to stop your car...but yea...changing e-brake pads sucks. This post has been edited by Valo666: Aug 20, 2007 - 10:22 PM |

I'm very proficient in using it ask some of the guys from the VA meet, I can spin a celica in a full 360* and maintain a good slide with use of it. always use it when parked EXCEPT after a) coming off the track b) any severe hard braking why? because when you track/get into the brakes A LOT and hard and you leave the car there with the braking break you will cause cracking of rotors/degradation of the pads. running from the cops........smart. lucky you got ur car back, shoulda crushed it http://www.wbir.com/news/national/story.aspx?storyid=39396 This post has been edited by playr158: Aug 21, 2007 - 12:47 PM |
