I own a 98 Celica GT hatchback with the 4-speed automatic. Im wanting to get a hold of a BRAND NEW JDM motor for the car. I want the 3SGE vvti (red valve cover) that came on SS-11, and SS-111 models, or the 3SGTE turbo from the 97-99 turbo GT4's. Does anyone know where I can buy, or order one of these brand new engines and everything i would need with it to do the swap?

HEY,
if you want a vvti-motor my supplier will have one in at the end of Aug or early sept .. it is not brand new . if you wanted a brand new one be prepared to pay huge $$$$$ as used these motors are in short supply even in japan .. production numbers are low compared to other engines in celica range..oly made late 97- spring 99 .. this is just motor / harness/ ecu and vvt-i guage cluster(white dials, and higher redline tach) .. you will need cluster to get tach set up for D.I.S no offense to anyone but jarco is not the only cheap , reliable jdm importer out there .. Jarco sells stuff on ebay now that i paid double for last year from them.. they are very 2 faced about prices and parts on ebay .. not saying they sell bad clips but just double check the net and shop around.. (also if you wanted to buy a clip and except projector headlights and such they almost always pull to sell on ebay unless you pay a lot extra ) .. bottomline just shop around.. my supplier emails comp test pix with every clip his sells.. drop me a email at kanji92@yahoo.com derek This post has been edited by 95WRC: Aug 6, 2003 - 1:18 AM |

i understand what you're saying, but just think about what you said. "paid double for LAST YEAR". meaning...demand has gone up, yet, supply is still very low...therefore, price goes up...take economics. and as far as them being 2faced, as long as you talk w/ them, and develop a nice relationship, you will never be led astray. while i was shoppin for my clip, the only people cheaper were the peeps at Venus auto...and lemme just say, i would NEVER deal w/ them... i was lookin for the 4agze, and there is a MAP sensor, and AFM sensor version, and i was inquiring which types they had...and i got emails and phone calls sayin they were AFM, and some sayin they were MAP...so i requested pics, and sure enough, both AFM...and when i asked abou tmilage, they said "i think they ahve about 70k kilometers" and when asked about the gauge cluster "no, that's gone." so you have no way to tell (veeeeery shadey)......jarco gives you all that, and everything (from my experience) was very straight forward and honest... . -John- ps. i realize you meant no offense, and i don't take any, but i'm just kinda doin like you did, and offering an opinion. . -------------------- |

Derek, hey, who is your supplier that would beable to get me one of these motors? does he have a website? Does he have a front clip coming in, or just the parts you listed? If not a front clip, what else will i need inorder to do the sway to a vvti 3sge? I would greatly appreciate more info. from you.

Actually, you can order the JDM engines new from Toyota or TTE. Expect to pay $6000 + shipping for a new ST205 motor (no trans, no wiring harness, no sensors....).

If you don't want a clip, you can get the engine, tranny, ecu, axles, harness, etc. from Storm Performance. That's where I got my engine(s) from, and their customer service and prices are great!

this might have been posted before but what are the specs for the 2nd gen 3sge?
I heard these were pretty good and were relatively cheap, and parts from the 1st gen in the U.S. can easily be used on the 2nd gen which was only released in Japan and Europe |

the 2nd gen 3sge only had like 150ish HP... the 3rd gen is the one most people think of, that's like 175-180, and the 4th gen is the beams. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300

I'm currently converting a 3rd gen 3SGE to turbo for my wife's car. So far, the 3rd gen 3SGE is nearly identical to the 3rd gen 3SGTE except for a few area's (high compression pistons, more aggressive cams, and no oil feed line for the turbo). This engine is really quite built in it stock form - same bullet-proof crank and rods as the 3SGTE and it even has the oil squirters for the pistons.
The bad thing is that all the gaskets, oil pump, and water pump are the same as the 3rd gen - so you wont be able to use any US parts for them. I saw another one of these engines on ebay yesturday for $850. I was tempted to pick it up and keep it NA for a future car.... with an exhaust, intake, and tuning this engine can push 200HP. But my wife would kill me. -------------------- Scott

Hey scot, That's all good to hear... but one question. Are you sure that the water pump is the same? Because from my understanding (and my parts catalog), the water pump for the 3S-GTE for the 205 is unique. Apparently, the water pump for the gen 3 in a SW20 isn't the same as the 205 version... If this is the case, I'm still trying to figure out why Toyota decided on using a different setup for the 205... |

Really? Hmmm, I didn't check the part number on it, but it physically looks the same. Toyota is known for having different part number for the same parts. I'll have to take a close look at it and compare to the ST205.

Yeah... the SW20 and the ST185 use the same water pump... which is what I purchased... and *fits* on the 205. HOWEVER... there is about a 1/8" gap between the blade and the back section, which may result in overheating. |

So, the SW20 with the 3rd gen 3SGTE and the ST185 use the same water pump?

no. re-read his post. esp. the part about how it *fits* but there is a gap, which may cause overheating...that should tell you that the SW20 and the ST185 use the same pump, but the ST205 uses a different pump. -John- -------------------- |
