Tundra doesn't look too different except for the 4 tires in the back; but that matrix has an intercooler...?

Big improvement IMO.

You beat me by 7 min. with the new corolla photos wink.gif Anyways, aparently they are powered by the new 2ZR-FE (CE, S, LE), and 2AZ-FE (XRS). I don't understand why we had to wait as long as we did seeing as we have the same version that's sold in Europe ans Australia confused.gif As for the matrix, I haven't heard any info yet...

Only thing that really entertains me is the idea of toyota heading back to turbocharged motors (the FMIC on the matrix)

I need check my wallet! oops, nothing... need to play lottery.

corolla is great, not as i thougt it would be. The production pics are almost not as good as the debut looks like a 9th gen with a different dress.

For those who crave just a bit more horsepower and torque, there is the 2.4-liter engine. This engine is completely redesigned for use in the new Corolla XRS grade. The 16-valve DOHC engine with VVT-i produces 158 hp at 6,000 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Preliminary EPA city/highway fuel economy for the 2.4-liter engine is 22/30 mpg.

Dam, Toyota trucks are starting to look more and more American-ized.
Saw one of the new ones the other day and mistook it for a Chevy.

It's getting to the point where you can go underneath without a jack and your forced to hop on top of the bumper to look at your engine.

That's a picture of the SEMA'ized" (customized) Toyota Matrix "rally" which basically uses a TRD supercharged and intercooled 2AZFE from the Camry. The production model will be more tame, although I expect Toyota to eventually roll out TRD superchargers for both the Corolla and Matrix considering it uses the same lame engine as the Scion tC, xB, Camry, Rav4, etc. That's their lame ass way of bumping up horsepower to "kinda sorta" compete with the Civic SI and Mazda 3, which will be the main competitors. I personally am annoyed at Toyota's lack of imagination as far as engines and trannies go, at least here in the US. Australia got a standard 6 speed tranny on their Corollas, which are basically the same as these. We get the same crappy 5 speed that's been around since the 80's. Oh well... at least they both look alright.

where the V6 ?!

These are compact cars... V6's will be a step up to mid-sized.

They have great power... =D Traction control system kinda sucks, and I had the torque converter issue, but besides that... great truck! I do wish however that they'll seriously consider a production turbo diesel HD version (the one at SEMA isn't a production concept) but they have to go with a front solid axle.

Alright? Are you kidding? Both the Matrix and the Corolla look sick as hell. I would love to roll in that corolla especially the xrs. The matrix is obviously a step up from todays matrix and looks sexy as hell. Why does it matter if you get the 5 speed or 6 speed. Sometimes I don't get why people would want the 6 speed tranny mated to their motor which is made for the 5 speed tranny. Having 6 gears just mean you have to shift more. I myself own a 2000 celica gts and having that 6th gear isn't that great compared to my 94 gt.

98 Celica gt red- totaled deer
94 Celica st black DD (bad weather beater)- totaled deer
95 Celica gt silver- chassis sold
88 Celica All-Trac (Burned to a crisp)
94 Celica gt white (sold)

In need of a rust free chassis!!!!

My opinion... that's all. It's definitely an improvement over the last two models, and it looks like the bastard step-child (corolla) of an IS350 and Camry, but c'mon... the XRS model is supposed to be the "Performance" model yet all they did was throw in a sluggish motor that's in nearly every single other car in their lineup. Zero imagination if you ask me. Also, a 6 speed would be a nice touch that tells us more dedicated consumers "we give a damn about your tastes for performance" but all they care about is production costs which is why everything mechanical on that car is essentially recycled from other cars in their lineup. I think the 1.8 can definitely use a 6 speed manual AND a 5 speed auto. Instead, they choose to be lazy and just throw in stuff they're mass producing.
