Hey guys, Im still looking for a celica to buy, but im still trying to do my research on anything and everything that I can about the cars. As the Topic title states....How reliable is the 7AFE? I know starting out that Im not going to be able to do an Engine swap to the 3S so im just checking how well of Im going to be.

Well I've had mine for almost a yr now..... She is still running strong. I put at least 100 miles a day on this car, not counting road trips. Just keep up with the maintanence and the 7afe is a very reliable, great on gas engine. Just make sure you do a through inpection of the engine before you decide to buy one to make sure there aren't any hidden suprises.

very reliable, theres always things that need fixing with age and miles however, but keep up on those and it will last.

Thanks guys,
Im still looking for a celica to buy and hopefully it will be a GT, but Im still looking into all the engines to see how well of Ill be. I searched the forum for some basic information, but all i found was stuff primarily on turbocharging the 7AFE. If I can't manage to pull off an engine swap within a year of getting my celica ill probably be taking that route. Hopefully it doesn't thrash the engine like Im expecting...

i wouldn't turbo the 7a. save and get an engine that you can do so much more to.

but the 7afe is an engine you can keep on beating and it keeps on running. not a high performing engine. but its not like your taking your car to the track everyday. the st and gt are rated 20hp apart, and the st gets a good deal of better gas milage.

eitherway the car isint going to be fast in stock form. the gt you can turbo for about what a 3s swap would cost.
