This is a petition that one guy on PSTOC made and it pertains to the law that it is illegal to take off you're front plate. If you would like to sign it and help to make it LEGAL for us to drive w/out a front plate, just follow the link and put you're name/email.

lol this comes up every couple years. I even took the petition to gatherings a few years ago and got signature. its not going to happen and actually i see the front license plate as a good thing.
Think of it this way - what if a kid was kidnapped and there was a car across from you and you were like i think thats the car on the amber alert but im not sure and if you coulda just saw that license plate you woulda known for sure it was but instead you just let it go and said it probably wasnt as it passed you with no front license plate. I dont rock a license plate in the front but will once i get pulled over for it in this new car but i definitely support the law that states WE MUST HAVE THEM. -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

There are parents going thru custody battles who abduct their kids. I just dont tsee the big deal in a front plate. Take it off when ur at a show or just risk going without one and if you get a ticket then its usually a fix-it so yeah. -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

Well then you're one of the lucky ones that havn't been pulled over for it. But, honestly, I don't want to risk it w/ the a**h*** cops in the city, where I mostly drive. Only time Iv'e taken it off was to do a few photoshoots, and even then, I wassn't on public roads like that. Wouldn't you rather not have to worry about it though?

umm i dont worry about it. I had it off in the celica and got pulled over so i put it back on then didnt take it off except when going to shoot photos of the car. Now ive had it off on the GTI since i bought it and had no problems. If I do get pulled over then ill put it on. I dont really care that much.

hahaha its not THAT bad is it? Its just a plate Big deal if ya have to have it on or not...
When I bought my celi it didn't have the front plate, but I had to put it on in order to take my driver's test to get my license... Never really cared too much about it, nor has it effected me. I always figured its something that needs to be there so thats that. -------------------- 2003 Nissan Murano SE |

I really don't see a need for it other than the state generating revenue. Kentucky didn't require a front plate while I lived there. I never once heard of a situation where a front plate would have made a difference in solveing a crime or stopping a bad guy. My dad was a cop and he didn't see a need for it.
The only problem I've heard of for not haveing the front plate is this poor guy: http://video.aol.com/video-detail/iam4uk-l...woes/1571861866 I had a boss that owned a Porshe which didn't have any provisions to mount the front plate. He got a ticket for not having it a few years ago. He fought it in court and won but still gets pulled over from time to time. He keeps a copy of the judgement in the car to show the cops. |

I don't know how much state revenue we're talking about... I know the actual cost of plates vary from state to state, but in Oregon the standard-issue plates are only five bucks for both. You figure labor, shipping costs, etc, I doubt they're actually making money off the extra plate itself. It's the cost of registration that brings in the revenue.

i still dont see the big deal. Its a plate and most of the time you arent going to get pulled over. The only real reason they pull you over is to check for other things. Thats what happened in my case. No ticket just a "hey you need to put it back on" warning. Woopty doo.

Not to mention they had me go to the emissions before hand (which they never told me until I got up to the counter ) yeah but did that 80 include the registration fee? I have to renew my tags next month, and the OR DMV site breaks down the charges for new plates (cause I want the pretty plates that cost more) and the standard plates themselves are only five bucks. Mind you, DEQ is $21 IIRC, and reg. renewal is like $55 or something. But if I had a new car w/out plates, it'd be five bucks more to get license plates. The new plates I'm going to order are $25 for both. -------------------- |

In Washington two plates go for $27.75, single plate is $15.75. motorcycle is $7.75. Tabs are $4.25 on top of that.
I know $12.00 isn't much to bitch about but it all adds up. I have a truck, car, and two motorcycles and I pay around $250 every year just for registration. It stinks that I can't drive them all at the same time. I also pay $25 more for my drivers license because I have a motorcycle endorsement. What do I get for my $25? A little M on my license, that's it. I'd rather not have the plate on the front. The arguments for having it are weak. The state could cut it's cost for plates by half just by getting rid of it. Some other states are doing just that. |
