I'm thinking about getting a powder coating gun to work on my own little car paint projects. Reason being is people charge too much to powder coat brake calipers and for that, i might as well buy my own gun and work on my stuff and maybe even make a little cash on the side working on stuff for my friends.
Anyway, I know they sell ovens specifically for powder coating, but would it be okay to use my kitchen oven to cure the parts? Sounds like it would work but I don't want my family to die from powder paint poisoning or something. Thoughts? -------------------- |

you'll need a fairly big oven.. i mean, don't your parts need to be hung? not laid on a tray or anything of the sort?

ya so it will only allow you to do so many parts at a time. it's not like you can stick a whole rim in there...well maybe if you worked at a pizza joint you could.

whats the worse that could happen
i think you'd be ok. just make sure you clean the oven out after. if it were dangerous i'm sure some one would have tried it and died and we would all know that its a bad idea. -------------------- |

what do you guys think about using a toaster oven? lol. im looking at a few and they heat up for more than 450 degrees which is good cuz i only need it to go up to 400.
just checking my options cuz craigslist was no good and i dont use newspapers. i hate touching them. the oven should be big enough to paint the calipers. This post has been edited by JoKeRkId613: Mar 12, 2008 - 5:18 PM -------------------- |

A big electric toster oven would be perfect.
You definitely dont want to do this in an oven you plan to cook food in. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
