You don't necessarily have to remove the tails... Just make sure you mask off your car well (i.e. with newspapers and masking tape).

Since you're just painting, this can be done for ANY year, make, model car...

: )

(it's a good idea to run a little 1500 grit sand paper over the part you are sanding as well. If you don't, the paint will blotch up and not stick very well.)

If it's pretty clean, you don't have to do any sanding...

As for removing it... I found it to be a pain...

Mask off the body panels to prevent overspray from getting all over your car. If you only want to paint certain sections of your tails, then mask of the portions that you do not want to paint... you decide... it's not rocket science...

IMO its easier to remove the tails and just paint them. Now with removing the paint if you messed it up. Just use some paint thinner and rub it over the tails. It will come off, I had to do this the first time I did my tails cause it was coming off. To prevent it from happening just put some clear coat over it after it has dried.

If you're not going to sand them, use many many LIGHT LIGHT coats of paint. And be very sure to give it lots of time to dry. After you tint them, be sure to spray on some clear. Then use your finger nail to trace a line around the tape so that when you pull off the tape, it doesn't pull the paint with it.
