Now I admit that I'm on a 4 hour delayed grounded flight back home, but maybe this is possible.
What if u got a bunch of carbon fiber, got all the stitchings exactly right. Could u use it as an alternative to canvas? -------------------- |

kevlar would last longer too... and make pouches so u can put in insulation, ya its bulky when u put it down, but mod the area so itl fit, itll keep u warm in the cold and cold in the warm, u can also then install a overhead light and its more annoying to break into.....

QUOTE(95st-celica @ Mar 27, 2008 - 7:00 PM) i think it would be more like a hard top....i dont think you can bend carbonfiber like that Ok the carbon fiber we are used to is woven fibers covered in resin for hardness.... TECHNICALLY carbon fiber is very very very pliable. Its when you put the resin on top that it hardens. BUT that being said.... Carbon fiber would NEVER be waterproof. It would leak like a mesh bag. You could put a vinyl or something top under the carbon fiber but that persists 2 problems.... 1.) all you are doing is tossing a layer of carbon fiber on top of your existing top... 2.) it would hold the water sooooooooo bad between its fibers that if you put the top down wet it would mildew. Now all that being said... I think it would be extreemly possible for people with hard top verts like lexus cars and such but celica verts its not really an option. - Matt |

it would not be reallistic to "stitch" carbon fiber or carbon kevlar, you could make cf panels and have them attached to a vinyl making a 1/2 hard top soft top

My friend is working at a sail making company and they use carbon fiber for all of their racing sails. It has a very tight weave which has to be somewhat water resistant. You can stitch carbon fiber but it would be crazy expensive to make a soft top out of it.

make a mod to rectract the hard top carbon fiber to hide in the trunk.
