has anyone had the problem of their car not starting when the doors are open? i though my car wouldn't start and ended up reseting the ecu and pulling out the alarm/immobilizer checking the battery, pull apart the distributor cap, checked the spark plugs. it turned out that it was because my door was open. the car starts first time when the doors are closed. is this normal????

Sounds like who ever you bought the car from had done some Craaaaaazy stuff....

Sounds like there is rather a switch on the door that the ignition is routed thru; or there is a relay wired between the curtsy light and the ignition line...

well, there are other combonations as well, i'd have to dig into it to find out what the hell is wrong with that. But i've never heard of it coming like that from the factory. lol.

i have no idea what color the wire is, but if you wanna dig DEEP under your dash to your ignition wires, and trace them to find out if there is a relay or some kind of trigger that it's running thru relivent to the door, curtisy lights or dome lights.

Personaly, if i wanted to do something liike that, there are you acc wires right on the other side of the (green ring) where your key goes: the acc wires are on a button right there so that when you put the key in it makes that beeping noise. the car cant start without that. I'd start there, but also could be done with the ignition itself. I'm used to it being a light blue wire, but may be wrong. IDK for sure on the 6gen celicas.

Does it just turn over too slowly to catch or will it not even click?

turns over like the battery is dying, starter motor spins, engine shakes but just doesn't fire. i mite start tracing from the curtisy lite trigger on the body and see where that leads me

if it acts like that; i'd also check the power to the fuel pump; and see if something isnt branched off of it as well. BC when you put the car into acc, it activates the fuel pump into ready mode, but if there is a relay cutting off the signal to actualy "pump" then it'd get a "sputtering-half-ass-not-quite-starting" feel to it; because it'd run that sip of gas that the pump grabed to get into ready mode.

Just an idea based on what your saying. like i said, i'd have to be there to say for sure; but i dont want you to limit your possibilities. there are MANY ways to make your car NOT start. LOL!!

Unfortunetly it's true...

Good Luck! biggrin.gif
