I luaghed and said thanks but no thanks. Id rather buy 30 cans of spray paint and a Ding King and call it a day. Just a heads up, they wanted blood.

Stupid people exsist. Either that or like, people who steal cars go there, and get the $200 paint job so no one can track them or something.

Not everyone is into show quality paint jobs... there are a lot of people who place more value in a house than in a car, which is why they wouldn't mind spending less money for a cheap-a$$ paint job... |

Probably with crap paint and no clear though. Lets just put it this way: the best way to get your car painted? Have connections. Either that or a LOT of money.

Just for the record... the quality of a paint job usually comes down to the quality of the prep work... If a car is prepped properly, paint jobs done by those cheapo shops can turn out nice.
Maaco general doesn't prep a car very well, but I've heard of people prepping the car themselves and taking their car to Maaco with nice results. Now if you're going to ask me how to prep a car or what needs to be prepped... then I'd recommend that you leave this up to a body shop that knows what they're doing. Otherwise, do some research on the subject or take an autobody class... This post has been edited by kuya1284: Sep 8, 2003 - 8:07 PM |

What Maaco actually does...well, they don't sand all the way down. What I've heard is that they sand the car lightly and put an "adhesive coat" on, then spray on paint.

" Yep, we used to say about Maaco " If you want matching interior, just leave the windows down" Seriously though, I know a lot of small/part time car dealers that do all the prep work and then take it to Maaco to get the paint sprayed. Which is not a bad deal if you are going to sell it soon. |

How is spending $2-3k (I got quoted from a private shop) on a paintjob define me as placing more value in a car than a house? I hope you know houses cost a BIT more than $2-3k and if even $5k is going to discourage you from buying a house, then, perhaps you should get a better job than at McDonalds.... ...then again, perhaps you were exaggerating, in which case I really hope you are... That was a bit harsh. Personally, I'd bet any number you can think of that Ray doesn't work at McDonald's.

I never said he did. I was merely pointing out that the "insane" price of $3k (which is a lot, to paint a $4-6k car for) doesn't hinder anybody's finances on a house. And if it does, they probably should be in an apt/townhouse. I think a better example of that, is someone who owns a BMW but rents....thats where its clearly a choice of where you want to spend your money. Didn't mean to rub off harsh, merely proving a point. And I never said HE works at McD's It was a general "If you" meaning anyone. This post has been edited by PhoenixDownVII: Sep 11, 2003 - 9:18 PM |

Whoa, I don't know where you come from, but I come from the middle class. My last paintjob was $1200, and I almost had a heart attack while writing the check out for that.

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at dude... when I made that comment, I was going off the premise that people assume that putting more money into a car will increase its value... but as we all know, this is not the case. However, when you put more into a house, the value will appreciate, not depreciate... My comment was supposed to reflect the fact that people would find it more worthwhile to dump their money into a house rather than on a car. I hope that's clear enough for you. And believe me, I know what it's like to spend money on a car. I'm on my 4th paint job, and invested a lot (maybe more than you) of money into my project. I know that ignorance is bliss, but before you go off making comments like you did, please make yourself more familiar with the members is this community. For the record... I'm a computer programmer and a UI designer for a respectable company... Oh, and BTW, welcome to the board. This post has been edited by kuya1284: Sep 12, 2003 - 2:54 AM |

wow okay, I totally saw it a different way. My bad, and even my response itself did read pretty witty, but I was just making a point. The McDonalds thing was a general statement, "If someone can't afford it, they should find a better job" <--shoulda worded it like that. The You was impersonal (Or however its called by the English rules). And yea, I agree wholeheartedly. A car is never an investment (unless its a supra lol). |
