I just got the car yesterday and noticed that the passenger side seal for the half shaft looked like it was leaking. Then I realized that the seal looks too big for the shaft. There is a pool of tranny fluid on the ground after i stop. So I got underneath the car and the metal seal that sits on the shaft coming out of the tranny was not touching the tranny at all. Then I stuck my finger in between the metal seal to find that the rubber seal doesn't touch the shaft at all. Is it suppose to be like that. Seems like the wrong seal was put on and now it is leaking. The tranny has a cusco 2way lsd and I don't want to fry it by running it low on gear oil. Should I take the shaft out and try to figure out what is going on? Thanks

sounds like the seal isnt seated in 100%. with all the work to pull the axle, may as well just replace the seal.

so I put a new seal in the tranny and the damn thing still leaks. then I realized that the wheel is wobbling while still attached to the hub assembly. I am guessing that it is the wheel bearings but not 100% sure. I am going to replace the wheel bearings and the seal. I am assuming that the wheel bearing is going bad because of the aformentioned situation and the fact that I have a slight vibration from the passenger side when I am driving and I notice a "hummmm" from that side of the car. My question is would the wheel bearing cause the axle to walk in and out of the tranny while I am driving it? I am pretty sure that it would but any feedback would be helpful

well I put new wheel bearing in the passenger wheel because they were shot when I got the seal off. But more importantly I realized that the axle nut in the hub was only finger tight.......and was not tight on the wheel at all. I then pulled the inner shaft out again and the new seal that I just put in 2 days ago and less than 50 miles earlier, was in two pieces. The inner part of the seal just fell off from the outer. Some one on another celica forum said that I need a spacer. I don't know what it is but I am interested to find one and see if it will work. I have access to what ever tools that I need. Tomorrow I will try to take some pix to show what is going on with the whole situation. I am dumb founded. I also have to fix the back engine mount that was "custom" for a 3sgte into an ST. Anymore thoughts would be appreciated.
