why? ^
every modified exhaust is illegal for the most part. either for being modified. not having cats ect. dont bother with a test pipe, get a whole exhaust system from the header back. -------------------- |

Any muffler shop'll do it for you. And to make things cheaper, you can always bring in muffler, headers, high flow cats, ect. and just say you want it put in.

Actually even my under the table guy won't make you a "cat defeating device". he will however let you use his back parking lot to remove the cat yourself and then he'll weld the rest up for you so that he can say he removed no smog equipment
Open downpipe FTMFW [BTW - I can honestly say, having gone back and forth a few times here recently, open downpipe opens up a bunch of top end. Might just be as opposed to a Greddy SP2 tho - it's a bit restrictive for a 3S ] This post has been edited by DEATH: Jun 10, 2008 - 3:52 PM -------------------- ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. But beautiful Kind of hard to keep the sleeper thing going like that tho [In houston noone thinks Celicas can be quick so it doesn't matter if you're decked out like the Pike's Peak Celica - everyone will think you're slow - thankfully ]
Next exhaust mod will be an electric cutout and to install the magnaflow high flow cat I bought after that. So it'll go: Custom downpipe/bpipe->electric cutout->magnaflow cat->Greddy SP2 Super quiet till I press that button This post has been edited by DEATH: Jun 10, 2008 - 3:58 PM -------------------- ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. I have a straight pipe running from my ebay headers back (save for a stock catalytic which I'll be replacing or eliminating in the next couple of months), and although I haven't dynoed the car, the entire air flow kit (headers, 2.5" straight pipe, flowmaster carbon fiber muffler, K&N 57i kit) reduced my 0-60 speed from a pitiful 12 seconds to about 9 seconds. Once I put in a new intake manifold and cylinder head, I'm hoping to get in the 7-8 second range. From what I've seen from dyno reports, most OBD II aftermarket cats offer improvements of about 5 HP over stock, and -1 HP over a test pipe. So, I think it's worth the 1 HP to not get a ticket every time you go for a ride.

true but how many cops are going to look under the car? anyway i smell thread lock or deletion soon xD They might, if somebody tattle tales on you (muahahahah) Get a high flow cat, kill the planet a little less. You never know who might get tired of people stripping their smog equipment and report you to the EPA. |

Yeah, since I replaced my headers, i've been running cat-less. I dn't have money atm to bring my car to a shop for them to build me a custom exhaust.
But I remember reading somewhere that for our cars we actually lost power or something due to not running a cat. Don't ask me where or how, I just remember that on the back of my head. |

I have a 2.2 Celica with a straight pipe from the headers back. As a muffler I put a double exhaust muffler tip. It sounds really loud but doesn't sound ricey. (Atleast not on my car)

I have been pulled over in Huntington Beach and had the cops pull out the mirror on a stick thingy and look under my car. So, it does happen.
I have a gutted catalytic converter, but when he looked he could still see that there was a cat. so he didn't cite me for any smog mods even though my header is illegal too. All I got was a ticket for no front plate. I do know plenty of people who have never had a problem though. imo a straight pipe back is the best option. -------------------- |

But I remember reading somewhere that for our cars we actually lost power or something due to not running a cat. Don't ask me where or how, They loose power from lack of back pressure. NA engines need a certain amount of back pressure to work properly. Turbo charged cars dont need exhaust back pressure because the turbo itself creates back pressure. I have a gutted catalytic converter, Gutted cats aren't much of a help. the pipe has to be the same diameter as the system to get the best result and keep the gases flowing at the right speed. I passed my NCT (national car test, every 2 years) today so ill be ordering a decat asap. i'll keep the cat for swapping it back for the next test. You can loose some low end torque if your exhaust system is too free flow but you make it up at the top end This post has been edited by Ronan: Jun 15, 2008 - 4:53 PM -------------------- |

^ you don't it will fail without a cat. just get a lagitamate high flow cat and decent exhaust. your not gana get much gains with a straght pipe, maybe a little but not worth it.
