When i put the key in the drivers door lock, the key wont move the lock left or right, its stuck. The door handle is also loose on the right side so it seems as though one of the nuts that holds it to the door has come loose. I havnt had time to pull the door panel off and take a look at it, but what could be causing the door lock to be stuck and not lock or unlock?
And on the passenger side, i can unlock the doors and i can go to the drivers door and open it, but the passenger side door doesnt open, even if the door is unlocked from the inside. I have to lock the door, and turn the key to the left 2 times and the door pops but locks again, then i have to unlock it again and the door opens. What exactly is causing these issues with the locks? Is it just worn or cracked connectors? This post has been edited by Por2geezcelica: Aug 19, 2008 - 11:59 PM |

It sounds like the lock cylinders are loose or something, or the rods that connect the lock to the latch to allow the door to open are disconnected or the plastic clips on them are cracked. Really the only way to know is for you to take the inside panels off the doors and nose around in there and see what you can see. I'd start by making sure everything is clipped tightly and all the little bolts and nuts are tight and secure.
As to the d/s key not going left or right... could also be because something is loose behind it and not holding it stationary enough to allow the teeth of the key to line up to the cylinders. Quick and easy thing to do first though is get lock graphite, put it on your key, and apply liberally to the inside of the cylinder. If it still doesn't go left or right, and you're sure nothing is loose, my next guess would be that your key is messed up. Is it the only key you have? You can go to a dealership and by providing your VIN number, they can make you a new master key. It costs about twelve bucks. -------------------- |

i had enough time to take the drivers door panel off and look around before the sun went down. One of the bolts that holds the outside door handle to the door is missing, so ill have to get a bolt to hold the handle on tight. Anyone know the size of the bolt? I tried pulling up and down on the rod that goes to the key hole and it wouldnt budge up and down with the force of my hand. Is something inside the mechanism stuck and wont let the rod move up and down?
And on the passenger side i found out that when i lift the outside door handle it actually locks the door, so in order to open it i need to hold the lock in the unlock position then lift the handle. I didnt get a chance to get the door panel off the passenger side because it got dark. Any ideas why its doing that? Does anyone have any pictures of how the lock mechanism and all the rods are supposed to be connected? This post has been edited by Por2geezcelica: Aug 20, 2008 - 7:34 PM |

both rods on each side move freely (one up/down to open the door and the other left/right - lock and unlock) if they aren't connected to the handle. There are clips that hold each rod to the assembly.
bolt = m10x1.5 I *think* I think the rods are switched on that pass side (but that seems unlikely with the length of the rods). -------------------- |

tomorrow im gonna remove the door lock assemblys and inspect them. What bolts hold the assemblys to the door? Are the 3 bolts on the side of the door where the vin sitcker is the only bolts that hold it on? And how do the rods disconnet from the unit?

so i have both lock cylinders out, and their both screwed. On the back of one, theres a raised area where theres a clip that holds the lever onto the back of the lock cylinder, and half the raised area is broken off so the clip doesnt hold it on very tight. Then the other lock cylinder is missing the spring that wraps around the back of the cylinder. Do you think id be able to get that lever welded onto the back of the lock cylinder, or use jb weld on it to hold it? And if i get a pring for the back of the lock, will that fix the issue?
Anyobdy parting out a car that would be willing to sell me their door lock cylinders and a key? |

Your solutions sound like they may work, at least for the time being until you get something more permanent figured out. It really might just be worth taking your VIN number to a dealership and finding out how much new lock cylinders would run, that way you don't have to deal with two separate keys for your doors and your ignition.

batman722, let me know if you end up getting that spare set. Would you have the keys to go with those locks too?
I went to autozone and bought some jbweld and applied it to the top where the lever is mounted, and will let that dry for 24hours. Hopefully this works. |
