been kickin this idea round for over a year with my body shop guy and finally desided f-it... I'm gonna targa top my celica... I need to see a photo of someone with a 93-98 supra with a targa top so if anyone on this board has one or know someone who does then slap a digi in there hands and take a couple photos of it! I need to see everything! the latches, and all under the headliner supports. I also need to see the side weather strips.
Also if anyone here knows where there is a junked out 93-98 supra with a targa top let me know I need some parts off it, mainly the targa top parts. If I go through with this I will do a write up on it and give you all the do's and dont's of the deal. Thanks and any help will be greatly appreciated! You might try t-bar ing it instead... I am sure it would be Much easier, and I am not 100% sure how much stress is put on the roof. You might look at how the weather stripping and connection is done on convertable celicas.

what we are trying to do is us the targa parts from the supra : latches moldings subframe reinforcements... basically I need the whole roof off of a supra with a targa top to make this work and am currently looking for a wrecked one. as for the T-bar Idea.. I have a sunroof.. so that Idea is out. I also want to hook it up to where my sunroof will still go into the "UP" position but not the retracted postion.. but need to take another look at the motor assembly for the sunroof. I would have to use a quick connect adapter to make the elec run but I have been talking to my body man and we both feel that this can be done for under a grand if all the targa parts can be located cheap.. if I have to shell out for brand new parts then I will have about a grand just in targa parts and thats not counting cost to modify the celica. I still need to see photos so if anyone can help me out that would be great.
as for supporting the cars weight we are still up in the air on that... basically that has been the only thing holding us back on this and am thinkin about hooking up a small roll cage type deal but am still uncertian as to how so any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks NEVERSTOP -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

I think the top would look very good. About the frame, you may really want to consider getting your frame wrapped. I think that may be all the reinforcing it needs but I don't know because not too many have attempted what you are about to. I have seen an accord done like that but they had a custom functional rollcage.

Actually, you could look into buying a beat down convertabe celica and using the body and suspension components from it. After all, they are made to have no top!

I dont want to really use that covertable's reinforcements.. I was more thinking along the lines of a simple roll cage type design that would have to bars that come accross the section where the targa is and then mount into the ceiling... where the sun visors are. and then have your typical halo that comes from the floor board of each side behind the seats and up across.. basically the section that you always think of when you think rollcage. I was also was kicking around the idea of mounting titanium bars to the underside of the car that would run from wheel well to wheel well.
I am hoping that will be enuf to support the car for showing and just daily driving.. I wont be racing with the targa off so there isnt too much concern as long and the car doesnt fold in half -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

Erm Hold on a second. Are you talking targa top or aero top?
Maybe we call them different things, a targa has a crosspiece through the middle like on the 300's. The Supra's came out with an "aero top". Sorry for the image quality. |

Dude, if you pull this off, I think you will be a very very rich man if you can scrounge up extra parts from what you used.. I think just about everyone here would want to do it to their Celi as well.. that's just gorgreous.
