Is this the oil pressure sending unit? My wire and plastic was so brittle that it broke off and made my warning light blink. Also for now, I spliced it back into the connector and just plugged it in without the plastic cover, basically male to female. Is that good enough?

Yeah thats your oil pressure sensor if its unplugged your oil light will not light up on your cluster if your oil light turns on its good and connected properly.
