K, so for some reason all of a sudden, my system is ok when I am parked sometimes and bump the stereo. But if I turn it up to 20 (when I used to be able to do it) the deck cuts out and then turns back on. The higher I turn it up, the more often it turns off. I tried to check the amp, cuz last time it was a fuse that connected to my car battery, and the amp was fine.
Anyone have this problem or know what it might be? It is really irritating. Happen more often when I am driving and I am not even hitting bumps or anything. It just started happening like 2 days ago. -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204

Once I ran the stereo without the car on and the same thing happened. It turned off and on. When I went to start the car, it didn't start. Then I got lucky and the car started. I let it run for an hour parked and drove it for 30 minutes to let the alternator charge it up. So here it is, going off and on again. After switching fuses in the amp, I go to start the car and once it barely wanted to turn on. Then now, it won't turn on. THere is power throughout the car, because no battery light comes on, I can still operate the windows and the stereo still works. This is crap! How the hell do I fix this? The battery I bought this year. So I guess now, it could be the alternator (which is what I am guessing), and probably now my spark plugs (owned my car for almost 4 years and never changed them like a dumb ass) and possibly a starter now. I cannot believe this.................... Car systems do hook up to the positive terminal on a battery correct? I have mine on it, but I didn't hook it up and barely started having problems after 2 years. -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204

look at my thread had this problem also. thought it was the alternator but all you need is the big three upgrade and possibly a new battery. the stock wiring is tiny, like a 12ga or something. i upgraded mine to 4ga and now it can run w/ headlights and stereo of the alternator alone. if that fails then its for sure your alternator. you luckier than me though. mine just flat out died on the road, had to push it a block just to get away from traffic and tow it.

Do you have an alarm on your car? It almost sounds like there is a bad ground between the alarm and the stereo that is disabling the ignition.

But the thing was the alarm is not installed. Some wires are all hanging about with a lil box and such. Even the old school horn is under the hood and big. my neigh mentioned a main car fuse. I dunno I am going to try and figure this out. -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204

Ok, took the battery to get replaced because it was low and still under warranty. Now I drive and drive side headlight turns off and on at times. Radio is still cutting out. Any idea what the problem is?
EDIT: Nevermind, I unplugged the battery while car was running and it shut off. I guess it is the alternator. Because I was told it was supposed to keep the car running and it's main function is to supply power to the vehicle. Found the problem. Alternator belt was loose! Ran the test after tightening it, and it works just fine! Still going to run an amp test over the wires to make sure there is no short, but all is well now! WOOO! Mods, yall can delete if you like.
