Thinking about a header..., but the forums are making me rethink. Options

hey everyone,

I was thinking about getting a header for my Celica. now its only an ST so I'm really concerned on how bad will the car sound? it will only have the stock exhaust, because again I'm concerned with the sound. I don't like the tiny, coffee can sound. and I'm really unsure what causes what sound. I saw one video where the car sounded deep, and not really tiny in high rev. anyway I'm still pretty ignorant when it comes to cars, and I'm learning as I go. so if you guys could give me some pointers I'm all ears.

oh reason for getting a header, My Manifold is cracked and I want to replace it soon.

with a stock exhaust you won't have to worry about a sound change really. it might get slightly louder but not by all that much.

agreed^ you might notice some change but it won't be any major difference by any means. The real change comes when you do your exhaust and how you choose do to it.

If your just concerned about good sound and not serious racing, you can get cheap headers from ebay or sellers form this site. Changing mufflers actually help too, just don't get cannon sized ones... just regular 3 inch outlet would sound nice.

yeah, I was thinking about getting a system with a 3" pipe, but also with an "actual" muffler. not a big fan of back-cats. I believe thats what I am thinking about.

If a 4in outlet is considered cannon sized i'd have to disagree with this sentence. My car is deep at all RPM's and I get a lot of compliments on my exhaust. I did buy a legit muffler and not an ebay knockoff so I think quality is more important than size.

As for the header, i'm not sure how the ST will sound but my car did not change much after the header install (and I did it before I got my exhaust done.) The real difference I noticed was a growl when I first start the car and it was overall slightly louder.

EDIT:
just remembered that getting a resonator or maybe a glass pack significantly helps eliminate the ricey sound. It's definitely worth the extra cash

well I 'm not sure how long this engine is going to be around, the Header is just going to be there for after i rebuild. I was thinking about switching it out for a GT set up later down the road. is your Profile up to date on the mods?

I mite do the same too. I have the same car. So far all I have is intake and I think it sounds pretty nice already. Yeah, I don't like those huge cans either. I don't know about headers. If you're looking for some. just look for corolla 7AFE headers. It's the same thing and Idk why but they have much more support then we do. hahahahaha. exhaustwise I'm thinking about going with a magnaflow. great quality and looks n sounds nice too.
