Well put... Better than the last one. But as a Prius coupe? I'm not sure I'd want to buy one. What kind of marketing strategy is that? "Buy our new sports car! It's based on our slowest car available!" Meh... People will still buy it. If they develop it, then it will definitely be a step in the right direction for Toyota, since they will have a sports car again.

Some of the body lines are just so sharp in all these prototype drawings. kindasad.gif Im not a huge fan of such ... dramatic body lines.

Toyota seem only interested in money now. They're not interested in developing fast cars any more.

Car companies face huge fines based on the emissions levels of their range, Toyota have obviously decided to focus on 'environmentally friendly' cars to avoid these fines.

Ghey.

But this looks like the Lexus/new Celica/Subaru concept.... Wonder if they'll ever make any of them....?

it looks like a miniature version of the FT-HS.. i like the design.. there are a lot of sharp lines but it still looks hot and futuristic, unlike the type of sharp lines that domestic car companies are using which are bland and boring. anyway, i'm sure Toyota is secretly working on something revolutionary (seeing that they have been creating prototypes of all sorts of cool stuff for the past little while) and will probably hold off releasing any performance cars until they figure something that's worth putting out to the market and is at the same time: 'profitable'. i'm guessing it's going to be a high-performance hybrid of some sort...

I find it disconcerting that the article made no mention of it having rear engine placement...

But in all fairness, 7 seconds from 0-60 and a supposed 60mpg sounds amazing to me. While it is relatively slow, I think it gives legitimacy to companies making fast, yet less than luxurious cars. I'd much rather see these cars come into the mainstream than for cheap-speed to be neglected entirely.

Ok, WTF! Is it just me, or is that photo/prototype lookin' like the prototype of all cars? So far I have seen that exact photo/look/design for the Supra and a BMW, plus I am sure there has been at least one more car. WTF!!! You know it is going to change.

I have a feeling once they can afford to put out faster cars after killing some of the competition, they will put out more sporty cars. But not a huge selection like before. I trip out on how Lambos and stuff sale if that is all they make (or so it seems like that is all they make). You ever think about that? Or is it just me?

Lamborghini is owned by Audi now, and before that, they actually made more money from tractors than they did their sports cars! biggrin.gif

“We have set a tough price point (expected to be around £20,000), as it will be easier to sell if it is affordable. It has to be fun to drive, too, which means the hybrid set-up must be different to the Prius’s, with greater responsiveness.”

I love how even Toyota executive vice president thinks the Prius is a boring car to drive.

I totally agree with this statement (although I might have worded it a little differently). I don't know wtf happened to automotive designers with the 2000 model year. The sportiness of the designs just went out the window.

Compare:

MR2 (MKII)
Supra (MKIV)
GT4 (6th Gen)
FD RX7
S2000 (introduced in 1999)
Even the Eclipse and 3000GT

To any new model, foreign or domestic, first introduced after 2000 (non-exotic).

The saturn sky comes close but the rest have major design flaws from an aesthetic stand point.

Wouldn't it be nice if they offered a $30K car that looks like an MKII MR2 with the performance / technology of the 370Z?

/rant.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
