Just thought I'd pass on a message from my brother's wife

QUOTE
I'm meant to be getting my R34 tuned on the 4th of March. Unfortunately no one here wants to touch it because it has a 500hp in-tank Walbro fuel pump. Apparently these pumps are poo when it comes to tuning your car to a higher psi (I'm getting mine tuned to 18psi).

The pump cant keep up with the fuel pressure regulator and makes the car lean out. This hasn't happened on mine yet, but I've been given a specific example of an Evo 3 which split a piston while on the Dyno.

Hence, no one wants to tune my car with this fuel pump in it. I've been told that it is fine for N/A cars. So I'm putting it into my R33.

I've been told to go for Sard or Bosch (preferably Bosch), so I might try the Bosch 044 pump. So, if you have one of these Walbro pumps in and you have been having trouble then it might pay to try a different pump.

walbro pumps are fine ive never heard of any horror stories from them. limits of a walbro 255 is about 500whp. you can always run 2 pumps or get a larger aeromotive external pump for hp over that.

Your brothers wife is wrong.
There are millions of people using these pumps. In fact, almost every modified turbo car out on the road today is using one of these.

The only issue that you can have with them (or any other aftermarket pump), is when the oem wiring is to thin to support the voltage draw. In that case, you have to rewire the pump to run off its own dedicated wiring/relay (search for my thread on this).
