Right now I own a 1996 ST Coupe, but I would really like to have more power, and even more than that, I would like to have all wheel drive. I'm really into the whole rally scene, which can't be done with a front wheel drive car.
Now, I love my Celica, don't get me wrong. I really do, and probably more than the car its self, I really love this forum. It's taught me a lot of things. But, should I try to get my hands on a 6'th gen GT-Four (LHD), or should I just move on and try to get a Lancer Evo? I'm really torn. I don't really have the money right now, but I would really like to change it up at some point. Anyone have some good advice? Anyone driven an Evo, gen 6, 8, or 10? Anyone driven both a GT-Four, and an Evo? I'd really like to compare, and get a feel for which direction I should move. Thanks for all your input. get an evo9, its a great car. +1. My buddy had one and they are amazing. I have a VR-4 grandaddy of Evo's and even that car works wonders. I think it's on the heavier side compared to a Celica but the 4g63t knows how to move its weight around pretty good for a 4 door. Also why not start a poll? If you can live with the mpg and the harsh ride day to day, then go evo.

although i haven't driven either of them (yet) but i would go for the evo if performance is what you're looking for. the drivetrain in the evo plus all the active suspension features and stuff is more modern than the simple awd in the gt-fours. but gt-fours look better so my vote goes to you know what. do you even have evo 6's in the US?

i'm a GT Four man through and through, and having driven both (friends (Evo VI, VIII and IX), I still prefer the GT Four, it's more a mans car without all the electronic crap, it does what you tell it do, rather than where the Evo which has active this and that, YAW control blah blah blah, but if i was to buy an Evo it would only be one version for me, the Evo VI Mäkinen Edition. Gorgeous car and the only one with any road presence imo.

do you actually have the choice ?
where would you find a GT4 ? if you have the choice, GT4, but if you are just day dreaming, go for a evo, lol Evo's are available in the US and you can grab one for a decent price nowadays ( used ) why isn't the Subaru STI on the list of options ? it's a rally car as well available in US and a better choice than a EVO ( in my opinion ) -------------------- |

Things may have changed with the economy though ? The EvO probably is your best bet if you want newer. > From Malden, MA > Right now I own a 1996 ST Coupe, but I would really like to have more power, Living in MA, your options are limited with anything 96+. Keep the '96 for a DD, pick up an ST185(St165 ?) and build that up ? Maybe do an 6th gen AWD & turbo swap ? Maybe Pipes can give you a ride in His swap ? > I don't really have the money right now, but I would really like to change it up at some point. Well then. When you get the money, Ask again. > Thanks for all your input. Good luck on your choice. Regards; |

Thanks for all the useful info. I know how hard it is to get a GT-Four, but I would still love one. The STi isn't on the list because my friend is getting one, and I don't want to be a big copy cat. =P I guess I will try to see if I can get an evo.
About all that electronic stuff, I would definitely like to get one before all that stuff came out, because I like to feel the car as well. Once again, thanks for all the comments. Keep 'em coming! |

I voted Evo, but I would personally recommend you go with a WRX or STi. The 2002 and 2003 WRX's had the weak tranny problem, but my 02 never had any issues. I wouldn't worry about being a "copy cat" if anything it would be fun to have similar cars, I'm sure there's a local Subaru club you could both join.
Plus after driving both an Evo and an STi, I personally feel the STi is the better car. Both are great though, and would be a much more realistic option for you. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

Yeah, the other reason I don't really want an STi, is because I'm extremely vain, and I don't like the look of the STi as much as the Evo. And if they're more or less comparable cars, I'd rather just go with the Evo.
Yeah, I wish I could get my hands on a GT-Four though. That would be awesome. |

Mitsubishi AWD anything has weak trannys. Those always break when you try to upgrade in power and will always be the first thing to break. I know two guys with a GSX and constantly getting it replaced. So bad they were thinking about going into Hondas over it, even though they aren't really into Honda. I have known two people to work for Mitsubishi and loved them going in, hated them coming out. They say they are P.O.S. -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204

old thread but not to be bias just cus I have a celi.
EVO - Better performance out of da box, more parts these days, more modern technology. Celica - More unique, has just as much power potential (if true GT4), Looks Better but old Overall - Have done some stuff on Mitsubishis, just hate the way their cars are made period, reliability, harder to work with.
