Depends on what the application is. I like leather seats, but it's not a necessity for me.

I waited a long time to buy affordable leather seats for my celica. Finally just bought some from a 2000 celica gts. They look great and I know they'll feel very nice once installed because I've sat in them before in my brother's gts. I've also sat in some synth-leather seats in my cousin's car and I thought they were real leather before he told me they were synth. I think it's a 50/50 between leather or synth.

If I had the choice when I got mine, I would have taken cloth honestly. Black leather in the summer is not fun. Your butt roasts/sweats like mad. Thank heavens for the Celica crotch vent.

I know you can go with Synthetic Oil for better results, but when it comes to Leather, being a Luxury item........ You simply can't go fake on it. That's just my opinion. I was so ANTI Leather before I finally decided to get mine to get away from my hideous and rather ricey seat covers......... It was the best thing I have ever did and though it burns my arse in the summer, it is so worth it. You just gotta take good care of them and keep them out of the sun.

Does it even get hot in Canada? I get 112 degree Farenheit weather here (which going off the top of my head is like 41-44C there, and trust me, we can get up to that much here and more), and I still love my leathers.

It depends on the leather seats... For real leather, I would want either suede inserts or at least perforated leather so you stay in place better when you take a sharp turn. But in my particular case, I'm torn. I have a tan interior that I don't want to give up. I can get the tan seat covers from Ebay for $400, but I don't have any pictures of actual fitment. Or I can get the black synth covers from Vincent_Doggy for $100 less, and have guaranteed fitment. I voted real leather just because it's always nice for bragging rights.

for looks, go with leather, for driver confort, I always choose cloth, I had leather seats in my celi at one point. here is my feedback about them

Pros
Easy to clean
interior looks cleaner ( depending on your cleaning habbits )
luxurious touch to the car.

cons
during summer leather gets super hot
during winter leather gets super cold
if you practice any sport and have to get in the car in a rush while sweating, hmm, I'll recommend some lubricant so you don't get stuck to the seat.
if you have stiff suspension, you may slid to the sides while hard cornering, this annoyed the #$# out of me.
