Personally, I would say if you can pick one up for $900, to DO IT! You realize they go for as high as $5k these days, average $3-3.5k, and can go for the lowest at $600 if you are extremely lucky. Worst case, you sell it to a collector as it is still valued as a favorite til this day. I recommend also checking out MR2OC.Com to read up and see what owners think about having one.

An old buddy of mine has an 88 MR2 and, when its functional, it is a beast.

Problem with it is that number 1 its from the 80's so, obvious age problems and 2, he seemed to have a bit of trouble finding reliable parts for it. And it isn't the easiest car to work on (apparently, I have never laid hands on it because he won't let me).

Yeah I know what you are talking about and trust me, they can get up there, mostly in the $3k range, but they can.

A friend of mine bought one and I drove it a few times. Totally awesome car. Imagine taking any turn you wish with the throttle to the floor. It really out handles just about anything out there.

Just be careful with any 80s car to make sure its not rusted out. Anything else can be fixed and the car is fairly easy to work on.

Hes right... The 2nd gen 90s ones average around 4-5k in decent shape and some of the really good ones are closer to 10k. I bought a 91-T for 3k and it is mechanically good. Visually needs a fair amount of work. FYI they can be a bastard to work on somedays. I usually just remove the trunk lid for engine work so I can stand in there.
