Just a forewarning but the last time a thread like this popped up it got locked for being very opinion and negativity based. I hope this one does better.

In reference to the OP; I don't know but I wish I did.

i haven't driven a coupe before but imo the hatch is more practical (in terms of cargo capacity) and looks better. but i would think the coupe (assuming both have the same engine, suspension, etc) would have better handling because it's lighter and has better rear bracing.

in the end, i would opt for a hatch. i love how throughout most of the summer, it can hold my bike, cooler, sports equipment, and camping/fishing supplies inside.

whats makes the coupe lighter...........i do like the coupe since it seems to be more of a car look....but i think i would prefer the coupe being a convertible....plus the hatch seems to have some aftermarket tail lights as the coupe does not

Realistically speaking. Ok, my 6gen is a coupe. I also have a 7gen. So that's apples to oranges for me. A hatch is definitely better for cargo type stuff. The coupe is a little more difficult to customize the look of. Any sort of aftermarket styling products you see, especially tail lights, are going to be for the hatch. I'm not talking curren (Which don't look all that different to me), but rather just raw aftermarket. I like my coupe for handling, and the fact that its unique. I do have a hard time pulling my sub box out to get to the spare though. Lol! So it's give and take. I like the fact, though, that when I get done with overhauling the car, I'll probably have the ONLY 3sgte with GT4 front end and a coupe rear. Definitely adds to the unique factor. I'm not gonna get into the bullcrap about "Coupes look like civics" and all sorts of crazy nonsense. People are gonna say what they say, and I'm not gonna change their minds. But that's about as objective as I can be.

Personally I dont really like the look of the coupe, but thats just my opinion. We don't even get them in Australia, all we get is the hatch. I've seen one or two convertibles on the road, but they're personal imports, they sell for more than a GT4, thats how rare they are.

i had a coupe. i think they both look good in there own certain way. coupes are lighter because of the hatch glass/assembly is heavy.

I owned 2 coupes and 2 hatchbacks all 6gc.

Stylistically speaking coupe looks like a car while hatch looks like someone took a coupe and hacked it to make a hatchback out of it.

Practically speaking there is no substitute for a hatchback. Too many times while driving a coupe I looked back into times I drove a hatchback and recalled good old times of being able to transport bulky items or large pieces of luggage.

Given a choice I would own both but having owned both I can't say that one has advantages over the other.

When driving a coupe you drive with authority and when driving a hatchback you have more practicality.

Stylistically speaking if you want to have a spoiler on your car then it will look better on a coupe because there is enough place for non aerodynamic stylistically cool spoiler to exist. On a hatch it looks kind of out of place and forget about lifting your hatch and spoiler because it will weigh a ton.

If I had to recommend you a car... for every 100 hatchbacks there is probably 1 coupe and that is because it came on and then off the market and then on again. Driving a coupe will make you one of the few but at a cost of not being able to haul things.

BUUUUUT

A coupe looks like sedan and sedan looks like a car and car that looks like a car is more appreciated. Think of 2 seater cars. Yes they are fast and fun but most people always know that you can only seat 2 in there and they are not practical.

When it comes down to it... celica was really meant to exist as hatchback and most likely due to their rally program. Roll cage was easier to install, more space to store spare tires and weight distribution was easier to shift with circuits. Coupes have this big chunk of metal stiffening up the rear so they do handle very very different. If you never drove a coupe and you ask someone to give you a ride in one you will be like omg omg omg I never knew the car could behave like that. Hatchbacks are a bit more loose, at least in my experience.

Hatch all the way. There is just more support for the hatch in all aspects and those damn SS-III taillights really make the hatch more appealing. More OEM options for the hatch. Also the WRC Rally Celica was a hatchy. I think they look better. Just my opinion. Although I do love the front end of the Toyota Curren.

i have not owned a coupe but i think the hatchback looks cooler in the first place thats why i bought it over the coupe. Also other than its looks you can store a heck of a lot of stuff in the back and from the looks of the coupe it doesnt have that much room in the back.

thats just my opinion
