got a question, i was looking into the adjustment of my idle the other day and before i worked it out it was the throttle stop screw that needed a turn i looked at a screw at the back of the engine, it sits on an actuator near the fuel pressure reg, ive had a butchers at the engine manuel and as far as i can se the screw sits on the acis actuator but now ive moved it and im not sure what it does? i lost count of the screw turns, whats the screw for as it dont look as though it does anything, does it control the warm upp idle as that seems to have droped a bit,
does anyone know where the standard setting is for the screw????

Uh oh... That's not the idle adjustment that's the ACIS adjustment, The idle control is a small white and black plastic unit on the throttle body which sends a hose out to the main intake hose.

Take the lid off the ACIS butterfly cover and check that the butterflies sit in the right position, there are some pictures in the ACIS/Beams discussion thread.

yep thats it, ive moved that screw and now im confuzed!

right so the acis rechannels air flow at a percific point to alter power delivery like shortning or lengthaning the air intake buy speeding the air up and slowing it down and its controled buy the ecu depending on the throtle position and air charge etc, so whys it got a ajustment screw on it if its ecu controld?
if i take of the big top cover the acis cover (long rectangular one) above the intake manifold i should see the intakes and the acis valve. where should it sit with the motor off? thats if the screw is to adjust it as it dont seem to be liked to anything when i glanced at it.

you can fine tune the 4 butterfly's just making sure they are in the right position. If you take the top cover of (its easy about 8 bolts and your lead housing) move the arm - the one connected to the diaphragm, so the butterflys are just close, adjust the bolt to that position.

ah, so they have to be shut or just closed when the engine is not running, brilliant ill have a look when i get the car back from the garage, im having a cam belt wp and tensioner and ns front cliper fitted at the moment so ill have a butchers this week, ive been looking for the infomation on this every where and i just couldnt find it, even the engine manuel dont say!

right so itll have to be adjusted with the engine idleing and i have to adjust it then so when idleing they just close?

ah right engine off, the valves will be open so action the arm till they just close and adjust the screw till it meets the arm.

cheers for the advice dude, worked brillantly, i took off the cover and sprayed some carb cleaner about and had a clean up as it was all dirty inside, i actioned the arm and adjusted the screw and she fired up and pulls stronger now, so worked brilliant even sounds better, the advance comes in around 3k without all the noise. so thanks as it was the only reply i got on here and on celica tech so thanks j.
