I've searched.

Is there any easy way to make your gearbox shift smoother?

I drove flyinglizard and Justin's Celicas. Both of them have a VERY smooth gearbox, and it's amazing haha.

Mine is very rough, you can feel every time you shift. You can feel it go into the gear your in, then sticks into neutral, then sticks into the next gear. There is no smooth motion.

So will I need to rebuilt the transmission to have a smoother gearbox? Or is there an easy fix?

Thanks tongue.gif

some people have mixed results, you can try Pensoil synchromesh, some people claim that it makes the tranny shift smoother, I guess for the price, it's worth to try, if that fails, rebuilt / replace your tranny.

it may also be because of your clutch, what kind of clutch and how old ?

I'll try the Pensoil tomorrow. Getting my car up on a lift and gonna check some stuff out.

The clutch is about 6 months old. When I got a new one (needed one very bad), I thought it would fix the issue but it didn't. It's the same.

And what kind of tools would I need to rebuild the tranny? If I took it to a shop how much (approx) are we talking?

I mean I think it's a problem, but not a problem worthy to dump loads of money into. It just gets annoying, hah.

Thanks for the help!

transmission rebuilt is not something you want to do yourself just yet, is cheaper / easier to find a low mileage transmission and replace yours, since is just not as smooth but it runs and drives, put some money on the side, and keep your eyes open for a low mileage transmission, buy one and keep it for when your clutch needs to be replace or tranny goes.

transmission rebuilt by a shop can cost anywhere from 250 all the way to 1500, depending on the shop and how much work it needs, if going this route plan to spend ~ 700

Alright. I'll try the Pensoil synchromesh tomorrow and get back on here and tell you how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

I had my transmission rebuilt for $800 something AFTER alot of discounts for being a loyal customer. Originally $1200ish without. They did superb work though thumbsup.gif , although mine wasn't rebuilt due to non-smooth shifting. It was well worth it but talk about a dent in your wallet frown.gif

To be more on-topic, I second the Syncro. Heard alot of good stuff about it. Best of luck with the results wink.gif

I recently drained my tranny fluid (manual tranny) and replaced with Mobile 1 full synthetic. After the switch I gota say my going into gear "feels" much smoother.
