Rocker Panel Fix, starting to fix Options

Sooooo i started fixing my rocker panel because the previous owner hit something and tore it apart and now after sitting it rusted so, long story short, i started cutting off all the old and riveting in the new sheet metal!



Unfortunately i broke my last 1/8 inch drill bit and have to post pone finishing it until i can get some on monday !


but here are some pictures of what i got done so far and its not too hard, but it looks like crap right now because i only got this piece half way on and there's still two holes haha.. but just throwing this up here, the more i do the more motivated i get to finish it

save that celica lol. damn, a hole in the rocker panel sucks. hope you can fix it man.

ha yeah it sucks but at least its only on one side! once i get all the new sheet metal on i'ma putty it and get it ready for paint.. no one will ever be able to tell since i'm putting stock side skirts on it anyway and lowering it!

I may be wrong, but to me, this seems very unsafe, and like i would not pass any sort of inspections or anything like that.

Where i live all you need to do is make sure they'res no wholes or ridiculous amounts of rust.
and when i get through with this it'll look better than new. all that the original was was sheet metal also,
haha.

And for the most part, as long as there's no holes in the actual frame or underbody where its important, i'm good to go. and the underneath and frame of my car is like new as the previous owner had it undercoated once every 3 years.

i wish i had experience with body work. like an idiot a couple weeks ago, jacked my car up and the jack fell and got stuck under my car so i used that crappy toyota jack stand under the driver side door and put 2 dents in it... i have the worst luck with cars

I had a similar problem with my rockers. Is that the rear? mine wasnt quite that bad, but I cant use a floor jack, because it starts to crush through.
Got some good arm workouts with the toyota jack lol.

Any way, it looks like you sanded it down, but I would sand even further, try to get all the rust off, and get about an inch (at least!) around the whole thing down to sheet metal.
Then there is this stuff you can buy, its called "rust treatment" (its at most auto stores) and you spray it on a few times, and let it cure for a day or two, then spray some rustoleum primer (eliminates rust too).
I am not sure if you are already past this point, but its good to do, the first time I tried to fix my rust, it came back . But after this it has yet to come back, or spread at all and its been like 8 months.

Ah man zf that sucks. you do have bad luck haha..

and mgnt i just kept cutting the rest of the rust out and theres none left there,
but i'll keep that in mind if i want to go aftermarket still, i just bought a front lip the other day
so i dunno. . .

Welllllllllllllllllll, got to work on it a little bit more today, had to quit a lil earlier than i wanted to because i had to mow the lawn, but all in all i feel pretty good about the little bit i got done today! . . .

i'm not sure... the first sheet wass really thin, but the second set that i started to put on i got from my uncle who works at a body shop and it was much thicker.

but anyways thanks haha.

and uh i have a job interview, and work tonight, and also basketball in a couple hours , so unfortunately i won't be getting any work done today, but i'm sure tomorrow i'll get some more done and post some more pics since i have a day off...

Wellllllllllllll had some bad news this week. my grandpa passed away and we've been cleaning out his estate the past 2 days.
butt, he's in a better place.



thats as to why i havn't been working on the celi as much. but as of tomorrow hopefully i'll be getting some more done..
