the tranny is set up for rear wheel drive, but you can have that fixed,

see the alternator, you need to swap the alternator to the other side, and maybe a little other differences. but anyways the tranny that people get comes from mr2, and the 3s has same mounts that 5s. so only minor things to be changed.

but wait for the gurus.

I'm sure you have already seen this response in NOVAK's thread, but here it is again.

QUOTE (presure2 @ Jul 2, 2010 - 6:10 PM) *
its not worth it.
its out of an mr2, which would require a new harness, alternator bracket, water necks, ect.

Basically, the motor and transmission are the same, but it's the things that go along with them motor that are different. It can all be changed, but you really are better off to just buy a 3S from a Celica. You come out money ahead from not having to buy the parts, it's so much easier to work with already, and it'll save you an immense amount of time, work, and studying.

I didn't read that, thanks, I was just wondering before I bought it. I figured it would be more time and money than it's really worth.

Yea I know that lol, I just don't want to install it and then the tranny give to 150 extra hp. Going from 120hp to a engine with 250bhp worries me.

I didn't ask for criticism. I just don't want it to break bc it has about 200K on it and 3rd gear was scratching. That's why I'm asking if it's ok to use the one the 4th gen comes with, or should I just stick with the stocker with new clutch.

i believe the caldina tranny is awd.. so you have to convert to awd, or convert the tranny to fwd which is more difficult.

caldina tranny is all wheel drive i would go downstairs and take a picture of it but im lazy right now and dont feel like uploading them to photobucket etc.

trust us... go for a gt tranny or save up and get the mr2 tranny + the mix and match axles that will be needed. you'll be ok with a GT tranny. will hold 350 fine. just dont go berzerk on it wink.gif

the AWD trans can be converted to FWD easily, I was in the process of doing just that, but an oversight of me lead to me damaging the casing of the trans, but is easy to do, there are a few write ups on MR2 websites about doing it, you'll need an MR2 diff ( LSD preferred ) and a cover for where the trasnfer case bolts to the trans, that's it.

search for the write ups on how to do this, and BE patient, it seriously is not hard, I just rushed through it and damage my housing. n00b mistake, but oh well.

BTW the MR2 trans is the same ( internally as the caldina or ST205 celica trans. so as long as you put an LSD idff in there, is like having an MR2 trans, but newer.
