This is the type I use http://www.v-leds.com/Interior-LED/Gauge-C...638587-1-2.html
Don't forget to not remount the cluster until you check to see if the led are in right! Otherwise you're going to really be ticked! |

That happened to my tach too. When it's night time, I can't see between 2,600 and 4,600 lol. But alas, I have no clue how to remove all that. I'd like to put in some white LEDs too, that'll look clean.

I'd like to put in some white LEDs too, that'll look clean. Remove ignition bezel trim. Disconnect dimmer. The dimmer completes the dash circuit so remember to plug it back in when you go to test your lights, else nothing will happen. Four screws hold the cowl in, two behind the trim, two up top. Four screws hold the dash cluster in, two on bottom, two on top. Three bulbs are on the back of the cluster, the big green twist-lock sockets. Replace and go backwards to put your dash back in. -------------------- |

Remove ignition bezel trim. Disconnect dimmer. How exactly do you do this part? The rest seems straight forward. I'm a noob with wires. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

194 is the bulb size. So, the same exact bulbs you get for your sidemarkers are the ones you need for the gauges? What bulbs would I need to make it white? -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

I picked up some basic Sylvania 194's from Pep Boys and installed them. I got a pretty basic light, like find of yellowish. What bulbs could I get to achieve a white color? That's what I was wanting to do.

Go down to where it says "8-star SMT," roughly halfway. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Jul 20, 2010 - 11:24 AM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Woah, woah, woah. $7.99 a bulb?! That's insane! I found some on ebay. A set of 10 xenon white ones for $2.99. Free shipping too. If those don't work, I guess I'll have to sell out $25 for those super fancy ones lol

Disconnecting the dimmer switch is self-explanatory when you pull the plastic bezel off. $7.99/bulb isn't bad for good LED's. In my experience, and other members can back this up, cheap LED's in your dash won't last. They'll start flickering and eventually burn out after a couple of months. As for a regular bulb that will get you a white light- tough luck. Those will get you a pale yellow. You have to buy white LED's.

I have some basic 194's in there now and they look fine and I can actually see my tach now after like 3 months of neglecting it. I just want white. I can wait. I'll probably have to go that route eventually, but I really don't have $25 to spend on 3 teeny bulbs right this second, I have other things to worry about. I'll get them when I've got some $$ to toss around. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

Lol no problem. I didn't want to spend the money on them either, so I just had my mom pick them up as a Christmas present. Now I've got another Celica, needs gauge lights, and I've got the money but I still can't bring myself to spend it.

Well those super cheap eBay LEDs I bought did NOT WORK AT ALL. At least I only lost $2.99. I'm so glad I tested them on my side marker before taking the time to remove my guages.
Hey Swiss, can you confirm that these will work? This post has been edited by HectortheRican: Aug 4, 2010 - 8:21 PM -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09
