Hey guys, I think i need a bit of an A/C recharge, BUT! In the store, there are about 10 cans of r134 with "stop leak" that supposedly reconditions seals etc.

Is it advisable to stay away from these, like with other magical stop leak products? I dont think my a/c is leaking btw...

there is only 1 can that doesnt advertise stop leak additives that im leaning towards purchasing... but i just would like to know anyway if those other ones are harmful.

If that "stop leak" stuff doesn't end up sealing a gasket then it has to end up somewhere, right? This is just me, but I'm a little leery of that stuff. I wouldn't put it in my own car, but I have no evidence to back this up. Just how I think it works.

it activates from moisture, better make sure your system is evacuated, held at vacuum to remove moisture, and recharged without any moisture in it before you use it. otherwise you'll just gum up the compressor...and that may still happen.

that would be the thing to do. try to get some dye into the system to locate the leak. my other toyota was leaking from multiple o-rings, most easy to change.

oh... i don't think its leaking. The last time it had an a/c charge was more than 5 years ago, it just feels like it could use some, not as icy cold as it was... but the temperatures here have been in the 100's anyway.

my question about the stop leak was just because 90% of the cans of refrigerant available here has stop leak additives.

got it, probably just normal losses. try wrapping the cold lines in foam pipe insulation, it will help you...and so will a proper charge. going by pressures gets you close but can leave you a little under charged.

is your car converted to take 134???? only legal way to get it drained out is to go to a shop and have them drain and collect. then go to like an auto store and get a huge can of 134 synthetic w/stop leak. i've been selling alot of that at my store

its a 94, it was 134a from the factory. my 93 geo (nummi built) was bought from the dealer with 134a, not R12. so even some 93 year cars are 134a.
