hey guys, just wondering if anyone else on this site is a subwoofer nut.
when i first got my celi before i could legally drive it on my own i had already put in a pretty massive sound system which set me back quite a damn bit. got remote ignition alarm installed so i can turn it on from my bedroom lol, leds that change colour, pattern, speed etc. anyways just wondering if any other ppl are into competing in spl i cant remember what my best DB rating is but i do remember hitting a 137.2 or something. talking to a spl specialist he reckons i can get 145db or so if i get a new box made, and thats whats holding me back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNTJmgBXA3I this is a video of when i first got my car, its a slideshow of the bootinstall and neons. will update into another the appropriate thread in the future how my car looks today. dz |

Man you rep vibe quite a bit! lol
I did the same thing before I could actually drive, went through like 6 systems and countless friends installs to find something that was my "style", of playing I read up a tonnn! (had nothing better to do in hs ) on car audio, and the subs can only act as good as the box you put them in. I first had some ebay bandpass box for my subs and they were kick assss! But then i really started reading into technical things, and decided to build a box exactly to my subs specs (alot harder than you'd think, alot of equations and precision). So i spent a while looking everything up and doing all the math, and decided it would be a fun project, so I went for it. Spent a week making it (never made anything in my life lol). but long story short, I put the subs in and...OMG!!! Subs were instantly 2x's the bang! I have mine facing toward the front, and the "wind" is a crazy feeling, I can barely play it. Also did all the LED's like you have an more interior things (went a little crazy actually, I think I have 6 switches). All 1/0 gauge wiring, Kinetik batteries, 250 amp alt, ect. Kinda gotten out of that stage for now though, think I'm selling the system soon. Its deff fun though, and when you know you can "beat" anyone around in a comp cause you did a little research.... fun times. And gets some heads turning Want to go 3sgte now though -------------------- |

yeah well i was talking to a specialist about getting a box built. this guy is crazy, he holds records australian titles and everything, hits over 170db. crazy as all hell. a cool thing about my car is under the head unit you will notice lil knobs. thats a bass generator. you can change the sub settings and there is this red button, when pressed sets the subs off, its so fun to scare ppl with.
im also actually getting 2 more vibe subs today for $350aud they are the black air series tho, but still powerful. hopefully i can get a box made to fit all four subs in my car with maybe 2 of them inverted. god bless sound systems. |

yea i agree the box means everything. I bought a second hand system from a friend, who had a custom box made for his probe hatch. Its a 2 sub box, rectangle shaped, and heavy as fu*k. costed him like roughly $750, although I got it waaaaay cheaper. I had it in an old bmw 3 series and it always sounded muffled, and I felt like it should have been louder. How much of a difference it made when I put the same exact thing in the Celica, which is shaped just like a probe. its almost too much and im running some cheap old subs in it.
although I personally wouldn't spend that much to have a custom box, it is absolutely necessary to have one fitted for your car if you want optimal sound. I cannot drive with them on constantly in my daily commute without turning them almost off or ill go deaf and rupture something from the vibrations (unless its a party night haha) -------------------- same skidpad grip as a 2006 M3....stock. I had a box like that built for my Alpines. The box was 500 to build and weighs over 100lbs easy. SUPER HEAVY. But got does it make a intense difference. The box is what makes the sound so deep.
Im just like Mgt though, I have a expensive double din, wiring, amps, and everything. But I'm just not into it anymore so I plan on selling it all for something performance wise. * cough * * cough * GT35R * Cough * lol. |

I always drive around with my subs in the back giving me a massage in the front seat. I bought then other vibe subs so i wanna get them put in, maybe two subs to each side amps in the middle. I hate our spare wheel positioning, stupidest design ever
