I've got my 3rd gen 3sgte swap done this past year. What I've notices, Turbo don't go full boost until about 3700 rpm. Pulls hard up to redline. I had a buddy with another ct20b turbo. I'd installed on my car. Test drive, It kicks in about 2500 rpm, but notices lack of power past 5k. I'm starting to wonder if my turbo was already mod. or normal.
I also dyno my car. 3 base pulled at 14ps, cheap ebay boost control wasn't holding anymore. I dyno in at about 230hp, miss place actual dyno sheet. For sure it was 230hp or more. Just also wondering where everyone else dyno their car? Only thing that is upgraded is, Went front mount intercooler, Aftermarket down pipe, cat deleted. Full 3' exhaust. and aftermarket radatior. Every else is all stock. Last Also Took my car to the track for the first time. My best time was 14.4 at 99 mph, fastest trap speed was at 103 mph but slower time. No traction, tires spins 1-3rd, finally have traction after 60ft mark. Planing on going with bigger turbo set up this year. Just want to a feel of what everyone have done and try so I can related that to my choices of set up I would like to do. I want my $$$$$$$ count on what ever I do. As we all know, everything for 3sgte and celica isn't cheap. |

Full boost [14PSI] at 3700 seems SLIGHTLY late but not by much. It could be as simple as a leaky dodgy MBC - you already said yours was not so great.
Mine pulls hard through redline but mind you it is a WRC CT-20b - not sure what the regular CT-20b is capable of. I would think the ceramic one would spool quicker than my steel one. I know that was the case with my old RC Ceramic CT-26 vs a regular USDM Steel CT-26. I would warn you not to attempt much more than 15PSI on a ceramic CT-20b tho - I've heard horror stories of the fins shattering on the turbine and I have a ceramic CT-26 off a friend's MR2 that did just that. It makes a nice coffee table decoration now. 230WHP sounds right for 14PSI - that's about what Def and I made at that level. The power goes up quick as you add PSI tho. A few members on here made 340WHP on stockish 3rd Gens with 20+ PSI of boost. From what I can tell it's ~15WHP/PSI. Your 103mph trap speed says you should be in the high 13's from what some of us have run. The launch IS the trickiest part. Till you get that down your gonna be stuck in the 14's. Hi,
a fmic have principle more lag against our top mounted water to air system, this is in front of more death volume and pressure loss a damaged gasket (manifold to turbo) between the two twin scoll channels could also be a reason (loss in kinetic energy) or possible your friend had a ceramic turbin wheel there is no difference in group A homologation turbos and standart ones greetz -------------------- |

I had the exact same 1/4 mile time and trap speed... Weird lol I'm only on a 2nd gen 3s tho Wanted to get into the 13's class, but it was my first time at the track, any track. I'm happy to at least get the time I did. I race few car that was at the track on the street, they had faster 1/4 miles time but slow on street. My goal was to beat a stock Evo and Sti or basic bolt on. I accomplish that. I've got many people tell me that I can't beat these car. Both car have all wheel drive, so not matter what I'll get beat on lanch, but on top end. Fwd drive much lighter hp to weight ratio makes my car or any fwd celica 3sgte swap faster if done right. |

tweak'd 1994 celica ST 1999-2000 4th gen 3sgte ct 20b turbo 26x6x3 FMIC 2.5 catless exhaust 2.25 downpipe ran on a dynojet@ 15-17psi btw...the torque is supposed to be rated around 280ft lbs but by that run my clutch was slipping this is mine when i did a dyno run one day. i havent driven my 3s with the ct20b in a while, but i DO remember it spooling VERY quickly (about 2500 rpm) but my redline was always early, i never got the chance to really learn/tinker with it much. -------------------- |

3700rpm is really late for a ct20b to spool, even with a front mount intercooler.
i have full boost before 3000rpm, anything later than 3200 or so, i would start looking for issues. time sounds about right for conditions you discribe, practice will bring down the 60ft times, and will improve overall times alot. there are lots of 3rd gen 3sgte dyno charts in the sticky at the top of the FI forum here. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I've seen people take that long to hit FULL boost with a 3S-GTE that have stock intake, DP and exhaust also. I'm not trying to argue with you here at all - just sort of depends on the car, it's mods and the driver. The issue he may need to look at here is experience - who knows. It takes some getting used to this power of ours death volume and pressure loss Even it's takes me up to 3700 to get full boost. I did not notices any really delay on acceleration. I forgot to note that I do have a lighter flywheel(F1) and Act clutch. I've notices when I installed my buddy ct20b turbo. I spool quicker like I mention, buy I did notices slight delay thur my rpm band. I noted I had a cheap ebay boost control, now been replaced with a Halman one. I have my engine running at 18 psi, no boost cut. Big differences from 14 to 18 psi. I ran against buddys that own evo, sti, I've notices I have a better top end power stock to stock. I driven evo and sti. notices lack of power past 5k seems to drop off. no more punch to it. I can keep my car in high rpm, etc 3rd gear and just punch it and still jump. Thanks for all the feed back. I'm looking for more power, but still keep is streetable. Also have any of you guys try this turbo. My buddy have ct26 turbo sent out. rebuild to a 57trim comp and 47 or somethingon hot side with a angle trim on exhaust wheel. I was thinking about trying it on and dyno it just to see what number it can put out. He have an Mr2 with 2gen 3sgte usdm. I driven his car, lots of torque, but spools pretty slow, even at 8lbs of boost. motor all stocks. |

when i had ct20b it used to spring to life at about 2600 and have full boost from 3000 to the 7000 redline with power plateauing at 6000 rpm
now i have a ct26 hybrid turbo running at 1.1 bar with a 3" turbo back exhaust and it lazily comes into power around 3500 and not hitting full boost until 5000, but between 5000 and 7000 it sh*ts on ct20b running stock water 2 air -------------------- Mike W

Since I get to try it on my motor for the fun of it. Since 3rd gen has more fuel the 2nd gen, and better intake system factory, maybe it might run little better. Since his car is disable right. |
