If I'm not mistaken, antique status(as in being able to get an 'antique' liscense plate) is when the car is 30+ years old. So even the first Celicas are just now becoming antique.

I'm pretty sure that a car is antique after 20 years. My friend has an 81 or 82 sports car, something like a porsche or some other expensive car, and the insurance is really low on it.

There is something about 15+ yo cars because my 85 GTS Celica wasn't considered a 'sporty' car even though the 95 ST is(same hp rating, but the GTS was RWD).

I reckon it will take longer for the gen 6 to be an antique than most cars of it's time. It's just so cleanly styled.
I've heard people say how the gen 6 looks like a car that could still be in production today.

--------------------
Facelift bumper-foglights-clear indicators, clear side repeaters, 16in O.Z alloys, stainless steel grill. JDM facelift tail lights. clear sidelights. Retro-fit A/C conversion. APEX performance springs. Remus exhaust. K&N performance filter. KYB excel G shocks.
Hyundai coupe Mk 3 (US Tiburon) leather seats. Gen 7 s/wheel. SR black vinyl door cards. Late spec spoiler-less tailgate with 3rd brake light.

That's true. When I first bought my car, almost everyone asked me whether it was a 2000, 2001, etc.

My dad owns 3 antique cars and has his own club. It takes 20 years for it to be an antique. Anything younger than 83 is antique.

I always got away with that on my 1992 celica as well.

the 8th gen celica should be a throw back (like the T-Bird) to the 6th gen! Maybe they would sell a little better if they looked that good wink.gif

Yes, it's also more just a production run vs availabilty/still owned models.

BTW: things like this might change... because last time I looked at the numbers we have like 5 years of oill... 3.58 pending no major consumer decrese 7.2 assuming us oils are tapped, fuel consumption is cut and a bearing a similar rate of oil discovery

Over here we call em classic's not antiques - that sounds like some old peice of furniture or a piano or something.

Its 25 years in Australia (and I was under the impression it was the same elsewhere).
