i just placed an order for a set of sportlines, 1.5inch drop. the guy from tirerack said that i should get the alignment kit for the springs. then i call up a local shop and they said that i dont need the kit.

my plan is to try to have a friend do the spring install and then take the car to a shop to have them do an alignment. i figure that a shop should have everything i need to get the alignment done right.

so do i need the alignment kit or not?

Here is a link to the alignment kit im talking about.

this is what the description for this kit says

"After the installation of either an Eibach Pro-Kit or Sportline spring set, a vehicles's alignment should always be checked. Once lowered, a wheel's camber may become "increasingly negative," meaning the top of the tire is angled inward (toward the center of the vehicle). While some "negative" camber aids in improving traction and road adhesion, too much can result in peculiar handling and accelerated tire wear.

Eibach offers a complete range of alignment kits which offer a simple, affordable solution to adjust "negative camber." These alignment kits not only assist in adjusting a vehicle's camber back to factory specifications but they also allow the experienced chassis tuner to utilize the increased adjustment range to "dial-in" a performance alignment that uses negative camber to maximize a chassis' potential. Turn-in becomes more precise and handling increasingly crisp and predictable. High-speed stability is also enhanced making an alignment kit from Eibach almost a necessity for the serious performance tuner. "

It's a camber aligning kit, not a wheel direction alignment kit. You'll need it. When you put bigger rims, the camber changes...just a bit but enough to make a difference. I say buy it.

can i just wait and find out if i need it?

im thinking that ill get the springs put on, then go have my alignment and camber checked. if the camber is off, then i can just buy this kit to fix it while the new springs are already on, right?

You shouldn't need it. But yeah, you can wait and if you end up needing it you could get it later. I had sportlines on my celi and didn't need it. Of course, I only had 14" rims.

ok, i wont get the kit.

man, everyone is so 50/50 on this topic. i just really wanted to make sure that i dont get my springs installed and then find out that i made a mistake and that i have to redo everything to fix the camber.

if i do end up needing some type of camber adjustment, i found out that i can just get some ceap crash bolts from toyota that basicly do the same thing.

i feel better that everyone who has the sprotline+17s combo, didnt need camber adjustment.

I said get it because it's obvious that when you do something like that, you need a correction on the camber, but you're better off paying attention to the peeps that own or have owned the springs. So far every one of then said you don't need the kit, so go for it. smile.gif

i have my ground controls maxed out being lowered at 4". granted i'm still riding on the stock 14" wheels. my 18's (with 245/40/18) should be in around the 3rd of january. i'll let you konw if the camber is off then but as of now there is no problem.

Ever since I got my car lowered my two front tires wear pretty bad on the inside of the tire, should I get an alignment kit?

go get your alignment checked. then youll know if you need the kit. you can also get crash bolts from toyota that will do almost the same thing as the kit, but cost a lot less.

I could've sworn someone said celica's came with adjustable camber.
Am I right?

Pressure2 and Coomer have them(Sportlines). They would be the ones who could answer your questions

They don't come from the factory with adjustable camber; however, the toe is adjustable (as it is with most cars). They do allow/authorize the use of factory crash bolts to correct camber issues, which you could use to dial in more (or less) negative camber.

My recommendation would be to buy the Toyota bolts as opposed to the ones from that kit. I just ordered 4 and can post the part # in a couple days if needed.

ok again.....if your car is lowered less than 1.5/2"s you DO NOT NEED THE ALIGNMENT KIT,
just take your car to any reputable shop & have a 4 wheel alignment done.
