Rod bearings... they probably need replaced.
And your sample size of 'one' is not sufficient to blame it on a toyota vs honda engine. Types of oil, how they were ran, many factors in how long an engine lasts. -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

Its all neglect.
I bought my car with 119xxx miles and three weeks later the motor was knocking. But I've also seen 5s engines with 250xxx+ miles on them with no signs of quitting. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

Are you SURE it's a rod and not just a chunk of carbon broke loose in a cylinder combustion chamber? (they sound pretty much just alike,,,) I would get some combustion chamber cleaner like Seafoam DeepCreep or Amsoil Powerfoam and try it. Can't hurt at this point. Little Old Lady may have never driven it fast and it's all carboned up.

Also, your injectors on the 5sfe are loud. Durring cold starts they're louder. If you've got rod knock, it's going to be there all the time and not just startup.
Toyota motors sound different than Honda ones. -------------------- 1994 Toyota Celica GT-S 5S-FE 190k Miles. Project car 1992 Toyota Celica GT 5S-FE 170k Miles. Daily driver/beater 1999 Toyota Camry LE 5S-FE 216K Miles. RIP You will be missed. *ASE Certified General Manager |
