Well I am officially back in the t20 game. The supra was sold to a new owner that will really enjoy it 2 days ago. I sold it because the MPG and reliabilty were just killing me, and the age of it was apparent everywhere, but god I will miss that power. After getting the supra cash squared away I took the train down to Southern California yesterday to pick up this with the help of MaskedMan. Then, with the assistance of rags, cardboard, and a trip to home depot, loaded up all kinds of goodies from a st205 clip for the drive home. I took off from Ontario at around 6pm in the rain and darkness and ended up getting home at around 2am(400 mile drive roughly). I got around 31 mpg on the drive home, which was great as the engine is very old and I had a good sized load. Anyway, the car is a fully loaded 94 GT hatch with 251k on it(original engine) that I snagged for a great price(Thanks Mike!). Luckily driving home I did not have ANY problems which surprised the crap out of me as I had around 200lbs worth of parts in the car and the grapevine is one hell of a climb for a car with 250k on it. The car came with a few mods already done, such as slotted and drilled rotors, a header and muffler, painted interior, and a duct taped intake
![]() Today I was able to tear into it, discovering a few things(nothing too terrible). I found that one of the CV boots is ripped and the joint is bone dry, causing it to make a horrible noise when you turn sharp with the clutch engaged. Two of the motor mounts are cracked badly causing the engine to move when shifting, and finally that the brake rotors were installed backwards and the lugs were tightened with 500 million lbs of torque. HOWEVER, the compression was 180-181 across all 4 which astonished me(i was expecting to have to replace the engine), as well as the tires having great tread all around. The plans for this celica will be revealed when they occur, but just know that I bought the car with MPG and reliability in mind, so the power train wont be touched drastically(like the rest of the car will ![]() Loaded up getting ready to leave Derricks house in Ontario: ![]() Stopping at the other side of the grapevine to let the car rest a bit: ![]() Loaded up: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Washed and ready for biness: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The short term plan for to get the car running 100% and registered legally. The car was in a front end accident(Pic) so it has to pass a VIN inspection. Also ill be replacing both axles and putting in Kirkosaurus motor mounts. On the train ride down i ordered all kinds of crap on ebay, including a full car LED conversion. sway bar bushings, HIDs, a new escort 8500 x50 radar detector, and some 4" round fogs( ![]() This post has been edited by SupraKid: Dec 18, 2011 - 7:17 PM |

You really like red huh? Lol All the interior red will go bye bye eventually. I don't HATE it, but it won't be staying. Welcome back jerk. ![]() ...not that you ever left. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of this turns out - it should be a great build. Cheers! GTFO!! Haha thanks Brian, it will definitely be fun. Saw your ebay header on the fs forum, and I was really confused... So then I found this! Glad you're still around, bro! It's good to be back! So today I got a few things done, I installed the OEM header to pass smog(The car is so much quieter/better sounding and more responsive IMO, so it will be staying). I also pulled the front end apart to start re-bending and hopefully get the lights reset. Got it off and both the high beams were wedged really really badly into the radiator support, all the tabs on both were completely broken, along with the crash bar being DESTROYED. Then used one of my old cracked high beams off my ST and taped up the other hoping it would fool the lamp tester($75 for a f*cking lighting test). My plan didn't work. So now I have to replace all 4 for one reason or another to pass. But the car passed the brake test with flying colors. The guy was unable to smog the car as it has to be done at a "test only facility" Thank you California. On Wednesday I plan to make the drive over to Santa Rosa to meet with member Greyform and CAMAricer to pick up some parts for the front end. Then Thursday i'll get a retest on the lights and if it passes smog ill be able to register it!! maybe if you measured in 30% of ethanol in the tank to lean out the afr and get a better smog? ethanol burns cleaner anyways...
My grandfather has anco's on his mercedes and he said he put them on a year ago and they are a mess...streak is like 90% of it...Bought him bosch icons for 42$ and they supposedly can last up to 2 years so I guess It is a bargain instead of changing it twice... -------------------- |

I failed smog BARELY...There are 3 or 4 things that could be causing my NO levels to be over. The line from the idle up to the TB is disconnected, the car runs warm, and I added in a fuel additive, so ill reconnect the vac, bleed the coolant, and put some 91 in the tank. Tomorrow ill play with a few other things and then resmog, and it should pass. But I did pass the lamp test today. Yea I will most likely get some boschs sometime, but for now the ancos are fine for 6$ each.

Up until I bought my Bosch Icons, I always bought the Anco's for the exact same reason. Why spend $20 a blade when you can pay $6 a blade and get the same thing? Then I picked up the Icons and I'm never going back.
That's a lot of JDM's in a short period of time... I'm impressed. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

I'm actually REALLY happy with the 5sfes power/mpg ratio. It has plenty of power to get me out of a situation on the freeway(i found out today) or put a smile on my face in the corners, but i can cruise and get 30mpg. So the 5sfe will be staying in this car. I do miss being able to rev to 6k and poping the clutch and going utterly sideways while the engine emits the sound of jesus :'(.
EDIT: Looks like the gt4 fog light bezels were recently discontinued. Anyone know where i could get a set? Or do I need to come up with some crazy foglight concoction? This post has been edited by SupraKid: Dec 22, 2011 - 11:34 PM |

^^ Get a BEAMS and get the best of both worlds. I mean, it might be Jesus' non-boosted cousin, but it's the same thing. Good noise, great gas mileage, moar powar than a 5S.

I really don't want to have to run premium. When I was selling the celica I was excited to be able to run 91 in the supra as I figured it would some how put me above everyone else at the gas station. After the second 75$ gas bill it lost its charm....And from what I've read getting 30mpg out of a beams is a chore. Not to mention finding parts for them.....Passsssss. haha This post has been edited by SupraKid: Dec 22, 2011 - 11:38 PM |

I was getting 33-35 easily out of mine before it started going downhill. Just depends on how throttle happy you are. As for premium, again, just depends on how much you plan on flooring it. You can get away with 89, as long as you stay out of the throttle. Way out. Which is good for gas mileage. I feel your pain on premium though... My Lexus blows.

you can actually "detune" the engine by running 87 naturally. Our 2000 nissan maxima with the "premium fuel only" sticker on the gauge cluster has has a total of 2 premium fuel tanks in it over the course of its 252,000 miles. It pinged like crazy for the first 200 miles when you put your foot in it..... to this day when you really crank it out it would ping a bit, but for 95% of the driving we ever did, it got 87 pump fuel.... I just don't know how the really high compression of the beams would like it

It'll pull timing and lose some power but otherwise, as long as you don't go crazy with it, it will be fine. If you plan on flooring it, you're better off to pump premium.
I promise I'll try to make my next post in this thread un-BEAMS-related. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

Check out a GROM Audio adapter. I'm rocking one in my IS 300. Integrates your iPod into your factory system, it's plug and play, and you can control the iPod both from the head unit and the iPod itself, unlike aftermarket head units that only let you use the head unit. It's well worth the money.

The car had $565 in back fees and Mike won't answer his phone, and now has it turned off.Thank you mike. Thank you. And it failed smog again. This is turning out just f*cking peachy.
*SIGH* But at least even with fees it was $1600, but saying when i first got the car it looked like the hood hadnt been opened for years and the interior looked like it was modified by a 9 year old with an obsession for firetruck red it was NOT worth it. The engine now actually feels strong after doing some normal routine maintenance as the oil was blacker than Wesley Snipes, the coolant was the color of Hector and Samir and the interior was so dirty it looked like the car had been driven by Pig-Pen from charlie brown since 1994. Yes, they actually rose in the 2nd test X.X. But i got a 2 month pass with one of those ghetto red box things in the rear window, so I'm good til late February. I'm going to find a new header and cat as mine is cracked(again, thank you mike) and a new EGR system(mine has a hole internally). Also i think just driving the car should help clear it out, as it sat for a year without really being driven.

I've been reading up on smog NOx levels for fun, and from what I can tell they were talking EGR EGR EGR when it comes to high NOx. So of all the things you previously mentioned, with respect to price, I would DEFINITELY start there. I apparently prevents pre ignition which means your car burns hotter and makes more NOx. So start there in my $.02

Yea ricochet that is what the smog tech said. And saying my EGR has a hole in it thats what ill definetly replace before going back. But I think just cleaning the engine out will also help. But thanks for the research!

Just now realized you have the 8 speaker system. Nice! The top speakers are 4", the others are 6.5's.

Yea the car has all the options that were offered(sunroof, premium sound, leather, etc). Actually the bottoms are real 8"s(not 6.5s in a bracket like normal celicas) and id imagine the backs are 6.5s like normal.

Factory 8's? I had no idea. I was under the impression that it was basically the same system, just with two extra speakers.

THE TAPE DECK TO IPOD IS CRAP! I literally just bought one for my sister for christmas. She said it was terrible. Low audio, shotty quality. It's a shame there isn't a better way to get to use the stock stuff..

Idk I used one in my first celica and it worked OK...I mean it wasnt great but I used it for a few months, but this is just terrible. My old celica eventually had bostons all around with a kenwood premier headunit and kicker subs, and it was ORGASMIC...This time around i wanna get a double din with 8" subs(amp powered) in the doors so i don't have bulky box in the hatch, with new headunit powered speakers in the top front and back..

A noob question but do the jdm tails just bolt right in or is there wiring work you need to do? (spicing wires from the jdm setup)

A noob question but do the jdm tails just bolt right in or is there wiring work you need to do? (spicing wires from the jdm setup) They bolt in. Then the JDM wiring harness will either plug right in or you can use your USDM harness, but it will have an extra plug for a bulb that the JDM lights don't use. Trace- I posted it earlier, but check out the GROM Audio unit. Plugs right into the head unit, full iPod integration. I'm rocking it in the Lexus and love it. Andrew- I'm jealous of your sound system already and you don't even have it yet ![]() -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Which bulb does the jdm tail not use? and what do you do with the extra bulb? can you just cut it and wrap electrical tape around the exposed little nub? and if I were to use the JDM, could you just splice it in with the stock wiring? I just pulled the bulb and tucked it away. I stupidly bought wedge type LED bulbs for the tails when the USDMS take the bayonnet type..So i ordered a set of sockets that ill have to wire in. Also today I started making plans for the lighting situation on the gt4 front. No oem gt4 bezels for me, and the running lights will be moved.

apply for BAR assistance program for $500 in gov money to help u pass smog if you fail. save your fail smog result print outs and apply online....you should automatically qualify. they'll order the part (cat, o2 sensor...etc...) pay the difference...shouldn't be too bad.

that's weird...I took mines to a BAR station or office and it took them less than 2 hours to say I was qualified. I also brought with me my smog fail test result to show along with the application. I walked in...turned the app in with the results...they told me to leave a number and they'll determine if i made it...2 hours later...i did.
Don't put your parents...you put the app being you and that you're independent. This post has been edited by chacha: Dec 31, 2011 - 10:04 PM |

Haha actually any mk4
![]() ![]() ![]() That picture was a local meet that is put on by a local ice cream shop that comes twice a year. In the summer it was 300+ cars, bunch of vipers and NSXs, lambos, a few ferarris, subis, evos, a few mk4s, and a bunch of hondas. This year it was 50+ hondas, a few bimmers, and us toyotas, horrible turnout :'(. During the meet some honda douchers came over and told us nice cars and asked what conversion I had done to my supra.... <3 Speaking of which, this showed up, anyone wanna guess the car and conversion? ![]() This post has been edited by SupraKid: Jan 1, 2012 - 3:34 PM |

That was the lollicup meet in roseville. We have supra meets every few weeks in the Rocklin Roseville area.
So my day started all good and whatnot: ![]() Started doing things like this: ![]() (That is my fathers workbench before you start making petroleum jelly comments yah asses) Then I go to start it to move it back into position...Dead...What evs probably drained from the radio being on. Jump it, drive it over to its spot. Tach isnt working, no gauges or warning lights turn on. Then open the door(car on mind you) and it starts dinging that the door is open...wtf? Go to roll up the windows and close the sun roof. Non work. Go unhook the negative battery cable, car dies... ![]() Leave the car open and come inside defeated....I'm think possibly the alternator is bad or the fuse is gone. Any help? We had an alternator on a nissan maxima go out and the electronics went haywire. radio and dash lights faded etc. Put the battery on a charger, trickle charger all night or whatever. When you start the car with a FULL battery, if it acts good you know what was up. If it acts like it did, start looking at other things. That would be my mode of thought anyway.

I honestly don't. The targa top and the sound that it emitted were awesome. But was not worth the frustration and cost of the damn thing to me. I was only ever able to use the power once and a great while and never pushed it to hard because I was afraid of blowing it up. I can't wait for a mk4 as it will be a mixture of the mk3 and celica
![]() Plans: Paint the rim spokes and outter rim black(ill do them in plastidip so i can just rip it off if I don't like it Paint the front bumper Sound system(this may come sooner depending on what i can find) Some sort of lowering, possibly coils Riser blocks Spacers Engine refresh and possibly RHD After that ill be done with the car forever most likely ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by SupraKid: Jan 11, 2012 - 8:03 PM |
