okay, so i purchased a 95 celica gt for my girl, we got it for cheap the guy said he didnt know wat happen it just wont crank that the motor was probably seized or something, i got down and checked the motor is not seized.. okay so i went out and purchased the things that were missing from this "shell" (a distributor and plug, a starter, and a alternator. all from junkyard, the starter looked brand new like 10 of 10)
i installed all parts i purchased in this morning, only thing the car needs is a battery and an alternator belt, but i figured eh if i grab the battery out of my 97 celica st and transfered it into the 95 it should crank even with out the alternator charging it even if it was just for few minutes, it began to crank then about 2 turn over it just went blank no sound no nothing... not even a click click wen u turn the key... i then transferred battery back to my car and it was dead i had let it charde itself up on its own before i could crank my own car.... then neighbor came over said turn ur car on and pop ur hood so i did, he placed jumper cables on my battery and attached other cables on directly onto the terminals of the 95 celica which gave it power, lights radio were working great as soon as he tried crank it it tried crank over for like 2 seconds then went blank power still on to power radio and all but it wouldnt make a click or nothing wen u tried to turn it over im going crazy what could be causing this, i need solve this issue asap, i cant keep relying on my celica to take me to class and wrk and my girl to work and her classes wen our schedules are completely opposite... please help ooh and i forgot mention im not sure but i think the 95 celica has been sitting in the previous owners yard for a long long time idk for sure but i doubt he cranked it ever after parking it in his back yard, it sat there has to be at least a year it was back there. |

Ignition switch, sorry. Had starter on the brain still. Starter solenoid also a possibility, along with the starter itself. If it won't even bump over it's something in that area. Could also be something simple like the ground wire off the starter.

What about the ignition coil? Have you tested to see if you're getting spark at all?

First step is to determine if the starter works. There are two wires connected to the starter, one that is always receiving power from the battery and a smaller wire that makes the starter operate when you turn the key in the ignition(the solenoid wire). When you turn the key, 12 volts is sent thru the solenoid wire to tell the starter to start turning.
So to test the starter you will need to unplug the solenoid wire(look at the pic below, it has a black plug) and use a small piece of wire to short the battery terminal of either the starter or the positive side of the battery to the solenoid plug on the starter(touch it to the solenoid plug on the starter, not the wire from the ignition silly) The starter will now start to spin nonstop until you remove the wire, if the starter is functioning correctly. If the starter did not spin, it is a bad starter. If the starter did spin, then either the starter relay or ignition switch are bad.(so go ahead and reconnect the starter like its supposed to be) To test the starter relay and ignition switch- First locate the starter relay inside the fusebox(it is located next to the battery alongside the driverside fender on my 94 GT) In the pic below, it is the purple one(yours may be different) Carefully pry the starter relay and the EFI? relay beside it out. You need a flat screwdriver or two to pry the tabs on the base of the relay so that you can wiggle it out. Now swap the two relays(put them back in the opposite spots) and try to start the car. If the starter magically starts working then you have a bad relay. If the starter tested good and the relay swap did not fix it, then you have a bad ignition switch. Hope this helps let me know if you need any clarification. Also, Autozone can test starters on or off of the vehicle(better to remove it and let them test it on a bench) |

Alright so I ended up, trying it myself, and all it. Did was pop... Like pop out and nada, so I took the starter to pepboys and my buddy, put it on the machine, and it spined and all but then test said failed.. so I need a new starter grrr lol

Well, hopefully that's all it is then. If you haven't already, should pour fresh gas and some Gumout into the tank and let it sit a day or two.

At least it's just a starter lol.
I was an idiot and somehow pinched a wire on my injector, kept popping a fuse that hides behind those top relays... that apparently goes to my starter. I replaced the starter, clutch switch, ignition starter switch, (swapped the relay with another one thankfully) lmao. I didn't see the fuse (when I thought I had checked them all!) and couldn't figure it out. Then thought about what I could have done recently to screw something up. Looked behind the engine and there was oil around the area I just replaced the gasket on... hmmm. Looked closer and the black conduit was INSIDE the head. DOH! Except mine decided to blow the fuse and kill the ignition on the side of the highway. Its that 30amp green AM2 fuse. I wonder what AM2 stands for |

Verify the battery is at 12.4 to 12.7 volts, then perform the tests I outlined above.
Check the wires Verify 12 volts at the positive terminal on the starter Check the AM2 fuse, its a 30 amp green fuse under the hood Swap the starter relay pictured in my previous post with the realy beside it If it still wont start its your ignition switch |

Well I got it cranked, I spliced a wire to the positive to a switch to the battery directly, so yup but....
It has a rod knocking hmmm I was hoping that's all I was gonna have to do get it on road but guess not but okay so now I need rods because I do have an 5sfe engine rebuild kit for it but the only thing it has for lower end is.. gaskets piston heads and bearings, and rings but no rods |
