So what's a good brand or make for a DD car? Are the AutoZone brake pads good enough? If so which one?

i have used the duralast pads in a few cars, they work just fine and have a life time warranty. so when they wear out, just take them back and get new ones

Yeah there's usually a catch, but some companies are good samaritans and literally give you "brake pads for life". Usually the warranty only covers manufacturer defects, but I don't know when the idea of pads never wearing out started... now some companies do change pads when they start getting noisy or don't stop as good (usually caused by them being worn out)

Braking systems are sacrificial -- usually, you sacrifice the brake pad in order to preserve the rotor. Lifetime brake pads and shoes reverse this, by being so hard that they are more likely to wear out your rotor/drum than be worn out themselves.

Wagner Thermo Quiet pads. They're ceramic, have built in shims so they are quiet, and they don't translate to a lot of pedal vibration but still allow good feel. They grip like a beast when combined with EBC slotted rotors.

Buy them through Advance Auto Parts and they're Lifetime Warrantied. We warranty them against wear, and product defects because you go out of your way to spend money with us on the nice pads, so we take care of you.

Hawk HPS are the best stopping pads I have ever owned for a street car, but it sounds like what you are looking for is a basic pad.
You can get a good deal on oem pads from www.partznet.com .

I guess at the end, you have to decide between stopping power and brake dust.

Ok. I need to bring this thread back to life since I'm going to be replacing my brake pads ASAP. I wanted to give the Duralast Gold CMAX a try but the thing is they only have it for our front and not our rear. Now I was wandering if anyone know of any good brake pads that performs good and doesn't shoot out so much brake dust? I don't mind if it's order online or any local stores that have them. I'm trying to get a set of the SAME pads.

hey silly,

I've got the ceramics on the front for my 94 coupe, and they stop wonderfully and i havent seen any dust since i've had them on, they have been on about 6 months now, and i do highway, and lots of city stop and go.

So that's a recommendation. Duralast Gold Cmax's. However, i had to take off about 1/32-1/64's of an inch on the end points cause they wouldn't barely fit in the hardware.

Rears, I can't tell you for the celica's cause I'm a loser with drums still in the back. :-(

Good Luck and i hope it helps!!!

I know for sure I'm going to get ceramic brake pads since they seem to be the best ones. Thanks for the info though. I'll stay away from the CMAX.
