Well congrats on your new purchase and welcome to the 6gc world! I use fully synthetic oil in both of my celicas, but it really is up to you. Synthetic is the way to go if you want the ''best'' but as long as you change your oil when you have to, there should be no difference really.

But all of this is useless without pictures! tongue.gif

Have to be careful with synthetic on high mileage engines. Can soften sludge that can break away and cause blockages, that and it can make seals start to leak. Mobil 1 makes a synthetic for high mileage vehicles.

afaik mineral oil also use those cleaning addons nowadays so I dont know if it really is dangerous to shift from mineral to synthetic anymore.

But if you can find out what oil the previous owner used it could be nice, if that was synthetic you should continue with that ofcourse.

I use synthetic in both my Celicas, the ST205 get expensive oil from castrol, the ST202 get not so expensive oil from "biltema" (swedish company that sell cheap parts for cars)

The only reason for that is that I care much more for the ST205, and it costed ten times more than the ST202, the ST202 also get much more miles every year, so filling it with
expensive oil would be, well, expensive smile.gif

Thanks guys. I do not know how to upload a pic. The previous owner moved to Cali and never changed the oil herself, so I don't know what kind was used. I live in NC and heard you need to go by the temepature in your area.

Posting pictures is easy. Simply upload the picture to Photobucket/Image Shack/other preferred picture hosting site then copy/paste the [img] link here.

Nice convertible. Being she had the oil changed in it, probably has been running with mineral oil.

High Mileage Synthetic blend... If you're going for full synthetic, try Shell Rotella T.
