Ok, heres the deal. First of all i wanted to swap a 3S-GTE into my 96 st, but i would have to modify mounts and use a different transmission right? correct me plz. So the 4A-GZE would be the perfect alternative right? 170hp is what i hear from other topics (i did do a search before i wrote this) just some things were unclear. So, my dad sez he can probly get a hold of one from a friend who owns a junkyard. So maybe getting a new motor isn't a dream any more we will see. Oh and i plan on buying the whole clip.
ok so heres my questions: confused.gif

  • What model/year use a 4A-GZE?
  • Would i have to get a new transmission?
  • This is probly a stupid question but could i use my 7A-FE's ECU?
  • If i needed a new transmission what model/year would i be able to use?
  • Would i need any type of new suspension?
  • Would i have to get a new large fuel pressure reulator?

Thanks for your help. Any info on this swap is very much appreciated. smile.gif

1) ... MR2's? don't know the year?
2) No, if you get the ae101 then it comes with an LSD 5Spd.
3) Why would you want to use the 7A-FE ECU on a Supercharged engine?!?!? No, you use the 4A-GZE's.
4) No shhh.
5) No, stop.
6) Only if you want more performance.

i'm gonna add to this...

87-89 mr2s are the only US cars that have 4agze... and that is 145 HP, not 170 HP, 170 HP is the ae101 JDM levin. and the ae92 levin has 165 HP. but those won't be smog legal, if that's an issue in your state... also, if your dad can get one, he's the man, cuz the USDM 4agze is a very very rare engine, and most of them get snapped up immediately by 85-89 MR2 owners.

nope, you don't have to get a new tranny, and the ae101 does not come standard with an LSD.

no, you can't use the 7afe ECU, but the 4agze engine will come with it's own wiring harness and ECU.

if you want a new tranny, you can use the 4agze one, again, JDM engines usually come with a tranny as well... you really should get a clip, that's so you will have all the necessary parts.

nope to the suspension, not required.

YES! you should get an aftermarket fuel pump if you can't get the 4agze one, the 7afe one won't cut it.

your best solution is to get a JDM ae101 or ae92 levin clip. that will have everything you need.

Have you considered a 4AGE 20v silver or black top?

If you are looking to build a really fast auto cross type of car, get the silver or black top. (although I have heard teh black top is really hard to find.) If you are looking for an engine that will get you in the running with most moded imports and old v-8 domestics, just get the 4agze -170hp. Do a few upgrades and Bam, 200hp. (get some new drive shafts also)

i dunno i though 4agze should be recommended for auto cross since it has higher torque than 20v's

Well, yes and no. Toysport has thousands and thousands of dollers worth of parts for the 4A. What I was saying is that if you want to go cocain crazy with an engine and build it to race, go with the silver top. But, if you just want to compete and have some stoplight fun, use the 4A-gZe. It won't cost as much to get in the hunt with most cars. But, from where I stand, the 4age looks like more of a pure race engine, where as the agze is a cheap fun engine.

Yes, but I cannot find them.frown.gif Just go to Jarcoinc.com or toysport.com or adelaidejap.au/toyota

Any of these web pages have that info. If you are just looking to learn, go to Toysport. I know those specs are here somewhere,,,

4age - 20v... overrated power figues, puts out closer to 140hp, ask Xpander on celica.net...he has done the swap.
4age - 16v... not much power, but loads of aftermarket.
4agze - supercharged....great power, torque = win! ... if you plan to autoX, this engine puts you in a different class, where you will probably get spanked. talk to evilspeedtoe if you are serious about autoX, but for street use 4agze/3sgte
