im sure this has been covered but i havent been able to find any in depth information on it as of yet.
other then tweak (who i know is the best at this) is there any person or company that does wiring harness's for our celica swaps im personally doing a 7afe to 2nd gen 3sgte. wiring is all that is left. so my question is who else does this conversion OR can it be done by myself? if it can be done by my self (easily ) is there any one that would provide the needed information that it would take? my other question is, ive heard and read about people that have not bothered with a conversion and just ran the harness through basically a hole they have cut into the fire wall, is this possible and what are the risks if any? |

mr220v from the MR2 boards (mr2oc, mr2.com, and I'm sure there are others) does great harness work for a very reasonable price. You can do the 2nd gen 3S-GTE harness conversion yourself, but there's a lot that needs to be changed.
By cutting a hole in the firewall, you risk accidentally cutting the interior dash harness or heater core. Also, since this hole will be bigger than the harness and can't be properly sealed, you risk water leaking in when you drive or mice/bugs gaining easy access to your cab. mr220v's and Tweak's harnesses are both extended to use the factory hole, so no issues there. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. i was in contact with mr220v for a while via email asking about his work with harness conversions. i was planning on going through him but at the time i didn't even have the motor ordered. i did finally get the motor and everything ready (both harness's removed and ready to ship to him) but im now unable to get a hold of him.
.................................................. so really the only thing that is done as far as the conversion is just an extension so that the harness can be ran through the oem "entry point"? if that is the case i can do that myself. i keep reading about certain plugs not being the same as the 7afe harness. which i obviously dont have the know how to do now if i was able to find out some how which wires go where i might be able to do it myself example [this i know isnt correct but it will help explain what i'm asking]; say 1 of the oem wires is for idk the starter and it has a purple wire with black stripe and the jdm harness i have uses a green with white stripe...would it be possible to cut the old oem plug off the harness and connect the wires together using a crimp connector then plug it in. is this possible? or would it just be faster and less work to just replug the the wires from the jdm harness and just pull the plug off the oem harness and put the wires into the correct spot on the plug |
