Hey fellas, just had my new input shafts installed, and new seals as well, couple days of driving, and one seal is leaking bad! Like 6 inch puddle of gear oil I'n about 30secones bad!,
This is the second time I have replaced the seals, and still leaks, and I just had new Input Shafts installed as well, other ones were make thud sounds on lefts.......I am using the 5s tranny ( fwd ) with the st205 engine, have 285,000 KMs on the original GT tranny, a stage one clutch installed, and syncrohs feel really nice as well, any ideas why my seals keep blowing out?? I was told these trannys mate well with the st205, as long as your not tearing up the streets 24/7.... I'm thinkin something could be bent on my tranny, I think, or is there a tougher seal out there I can install???? Thanx fellas!

PS. The Input Shafts are the stock ones for the 5s Tranny of course, and the seals too

You've only got 1 input shaft. smile.gif
And only 1 input shaft seal.

If you've got a new shaft and a new seal it sounds like the seal was installed wrong [EG not deep enough or the spring got knocked off].
Did you install it or a shop install it?

^ I think he may mean axles, in this case, since he's speaking of two?

Correct, I am speaking of the axles, ( thought input shafts were another term for them ) my bad,...So yeah, Mehcanic explained to me He believes it's the Tranny, inside the Diff. He said I'm getting the vibration from the axles because there is play inside the diff. Where the axles are inserted, and I'n turn because there's play, the axles vibrate, which then rub my seals, then my seals leak, He explained I will keep going through seals everytime unless I purchase a good used Tranny, perhaps if lucky enough, one with stock axles too....Has anyone heard of this or experienced it after doing the ST205 3sgte swap, and using the S54 Tranny off the 5sfe......thanx for any input...

im having the same exact issue. go under your car shake your axle up and down. it move like that because your bearing is shot. in my case its the driver side. i installed new seals because mine was leaking badly also. but even though new seals were installed it continued to leak because the bearing inside wobled the axle while driving wearing the new seal and no longer sealing agin. so i got another trans and bulding this one to install this one in place of the old one.

Thanx TerBeau! finally, someone expiriencing the same problem with some input.....I agree, changed out the seals and installed new axles on both sides, and still leaking, and still vibrating, PLEASE! keep me posted on the tranny swap you are doing, if it works for you, then I will be deff. purchasing a good used Tranny,
You are still going with the 5sfe Tranny correct? I did not know the bearing(s) could go caput like that, any other info about this problem?? wink.gif

Yes Smaay, I believe that they are, my buddy whom is a certified toyota mehcanic for 20yrs, is the one who performed the operation, twice he had the axles out to replace the bearings, and twice they leak, and still have vibration.....Is it safe to say, that it could be what TerBeau is talking about with his dilema, could also be mine???, it sure sounds like it. wink.gif

im 100% certain mines in. i pulled it into the shop. i took a hammer and a chizzle and even tapped on the edge and it bottomed out. not to mention mine has a dust cover on the axle soo it has a certain stopping point.
